The End Of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Explained

Viewers can end up pretty confused by a film like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Did Mac's revolution actually make a difference? What was Chief trying to accomplish? Does Nurse Ratched represent women in the 1960s? Here's some insight into the ending of the classic film. Billy Bibbit is a soft-spoken young man with thoughts of killing himself, but he doesn't choose to end his life all on his own. Nurse Ratched talks him into it. When Mac throws a party on the ward with two sex workers, he encourages Billy to make his move on Candy, in whom he'd expressed interest during the boat trip.

The Kennedy's had daughter Rosemary lobotomized when she was only 23. The procedure was botched, and left her with life-long speech and motor-skill problems. They kept her hidden from the public in an institution in Wisconsin for years. She lived well into her 80's - a long life that could've been lived productively and with dignity completely thrown away for absolutely no reason. Very sad. RIP Rosemary.

I'm glad someone uploaded this. It's a pretty complicated ending that probably does need explanation. I'm pretty sure I know why the end happened the way it did but at the same time there could be things I don't know.

I saw this movie as a very young kid. It always hurt me deeply but I see it as a worst case scenario win. Damn. Even now McMurphy and Chief have the ability to make me feel painfully alive.
