I'd say the reason this film wasn't a big hit is that it breaks the rule of 'don't make a movie that ruins the story of a previous movie that is also extremely well liked'. 'Alien 3' ruins the story of 'Aliens' by killing everyone from that film in short order. The new Star Wars trilogy ultimately makes the struggles of the original trilogy meaningless and as a result annoyed a lot of fans.
Dark Fate looked very promising. I expect there were some people that were put off by the female cast (there are always some) but for me the problem was that they kill John Connor mere months after the events of T2-Thus rendering the events of T1 and T2 pretty much meaningless (since the main objective of those films was to allow John Connor to survive. These are two legendarily good movies and much beloved classics, so if you're going to attempt to push your film up by pulling those ones down, you better have something pretty special (and even if you do, you're still going to be pissing a lot of people off.

I wonder what they left on the cutting room floor? To me it need a serious re-edit before release, people were left in the unaware for too long regarding the true heroism of the human Hispanic characters - we couldn't hate the Hispanic Terminator enough, we were not allowed to grieve enough for the human he killed repeatedly through outrageous acts of genocidal violence against innocent people - we didn't understand the Hispanic Teenage Girl's future well enough, soon enough to be as protective a audience as we wanted to be - it was all there - but it wasn't edited there the way the audience wanted it to be - if you want to come back - edit it for the audience, make it as if you are the audience - make yourself cheer, make yourself cry, make yourself happy!

crybaby fanboys always pick one individual thing in movies they don't like and decide that that one thing is the reason it was bad. For BvS it was the Martha moment, for this it's John Connor dying, and a similar thing with Last of Us 2. What exactly did you expect if the character isn't in any of the trailers of marketing, they were never gonna bring Edward Furlong back, and since when is John a beloved character? He's cute but kinda annoying in 2, an uncharismatic jerk in 3, Christian Bale in Salvation, and a one dimensional villain for some reason in Genisys.
The movie was ok. Props to them for trying something different, but this franchise needs to die or change DRAMATICALLY for anyone to care.

I m not sick of the franchise, I thought the film was great, the only thing that fails for me is the lack of traditional and realistic visual effects. Practical effects were so good in T2 and just grounded if so much. But not just that, all these non terminator characters are just too invincible and confident. There s no real fear. The first two films had such a feeling and dread and threat to them, that it was exciting. Now it s just a CGI mess where these people are above all the law and go from set piece to set piece blowing stuff up to make it look cool. The snow plow motorway chase for example, where were the police!

This was the WORST analysis ever. The movie sucked because IT KILLED ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS, A LEGACY CHARACTR, in the beginning of the movie. And then added NOTHING NEW, to the movie. The villain was not scary enough, and the plot was boring. Boring looking cgi. Characters I did not care about, etc.
Star Wars had the fan fatigue because the new Star Wars movies KILLED LUKE SKYWALKER and treated the legacy characters as pieces of trash! Why in the name of the Force, would one want to KILL the ONLY character that carries the whole franchise on its shoulders!
Bad scripts and bad judgment killed both franchises!

This movie flopped because anyone can be a savour. when before it was just one person which people get behind a hero and one they know. Ie John conner and Sarah conner they have to be the hero's don't even matter who's cast but they broke that I liked the movie and yes shock value was there but didn't bring back the hero with a wishy washy new hero I could not get behind it future war of the orginals needs to happen with a side charictor and John had a order giver / guest star so u follow a grunt. and just a quick add yes I like the fox series that was ace fox u dim wits all the best ones get canceled tho =(

Terminator Trash Fate shouldn't exist. The movie is bad, as a Terminator film. How dare them kill John Connor off. They said, this film tales place after T2, such a movie will bring the old school fans back. So, they killed off John Connor and thought that was cute. Very, very big mistake, of you ask me. Not only that, but you replace my boy with random females. Come on. Sarah Connor, one of the coolest characters of all time, took a back seat, to these random female characters. Nothing but disrespect for days.

It wasn't what gender, it wasn't brand fatigue, it was that it was basically a crap film and a remake of T2 with nothing new to add and anything new they did add felt like it was either playing for laughs or didn't make sense. e, g bringing back old actors because you think that is going to make fans like the movie when all it does is make you think they're just there because they couldn't think of a better new plot. You can only watch the same plot so many times, it needed to be something completely new.

Wether intended or not, it didn't help that the new direction screamed wokeness. Many franchises do well without fan fatigue being suggested because they keep making good movies.

They killed the entire reason for the franchise by offing John Connor. Terminator 1 was a surprise and pretty good. Judgement day was an action masterpiece. Every fan of the franchise was hoping to see a continuation of John and Sarahs story, and instead they made some garbage excuse about the future suddenly changed. The first movies were adamant about Johns survival and they just forgot about it. Pure garbage.
