That's dumb.
Wednesday's always been written as a brilliant character with a sharp mind that was influenced by the many out-of-the-box extracurriculars her parents did with her. She doesn't struggle with logic or competency, she struggles with complex human emotions and feelings. Wednesday's compassionate by nature but not nurture. Her family dynamic is based on being weird and spooky and scary and embracing those frightening characteristics is how they bond.
Wednesday isn't a Mary Sue. Throughout the series, characters from her best friends, love interests, potential enemies and family members call her out for her insensitivity, obsessions and cold comments. Her flaws are probably a bigger foe than her actual enemies. And when it comes to modern skills for acceptance like social media, fashion and just owning modern technology, Wednesday doesn't even have a toe in the circle. Everyone learns to understand her and see her better qualities but not before setting some boundaries, demanding a little respect and butting heads with her a few times.
Plus the series is AMAZING. Easily worth five Netflix originals. It's an authentic mystery with a genuine detective. No one can tell me otherwise.

wednesday is not a mary sue. it is true that she can do so many things, or one might say, too many. she was good, but almost always not good enough. the only skills she may be flawless in the show was her cello playing and her sarcasm.
she is a very good fencer, but she convincingly lost to bianca.
her diligence and stubborness has caused her friends harm.
her deductive prowess only led to the imprisonment of the wrong guy.
even her combat skills were not enough. the hyde would have easily killed her if not for marilyn having other plans for her. crackstone would have beaten her if not for the help of bianca and eugene.
her story is that she thinks she is a mary sue, that she can do everything by herself. but the show is about her finding out that she is not, and that she can accomplish more if she has friends, and that she actually likes having friends.

Not a mary sue, but only by virtue of being an Addams. which is actually a problem. This show doesn't feel like an Addams Family show at all, more like a CW supernatural teen flick that they wanted to sell better by sticking in a random IP. Feels like an exec saw a random script and said it'd do better if they put a well known franchise in it.
With that said. the show was enjoyable. I have gripes, especially with how it would had been better if the hyde had stayed a reluctant killer than just going mustache twirling bad guy at the end. Or if Crackstone had been kept around for season 2. Feels like they wrote the end in a very rushed manner and didn't know if they'd even get a season 2.
Over all though? It's a good watch and got some laughs from me. I'd recommend it to my friends.

I have not really see people complaining about it, but the reason Wednesday is NOT a Mary Sue it's because her mundane skills (fencing, music, writing) are consistent with her character, earned by practice and training from childhood and yet:
The series shows she is sometimes using her novel as a way to vent her frustrations when things dont go her way, so we don't know how good the novel actually is.
She got a bit too arrogant, challenged the best fencer in her new school and then lost the duel.
She is stumped at verbal sparring (which is her most notable skill) by several characters, since they are all outcasts and her antics do not impress them, only annoy them.
She actually FAILS, got tricked and DID NOT solve the main enigma, sending an inocent young man to jail.

I don't think these people complaining actually know what a mary-sue character is. The typical Mary-sue succeeds at everything and has no real impactful character flaws, this version of Wednesday does not fit that at all. She loses her fencing match to Bianca. She is called out for her toxic and manipulative behavior, which I don't believe her journey in being a better friend is going to be linear. She was wrong several times while trying to solve the mystery. She is 100% not a mary-sue. Characters that would be: Mulan (in the new live action, Supergirl (let's not even get the ball rolling on that train wreck of a show, etc. Just because someone has talent and hobbies does not make them perfect.

See I feel like she cares a lot more for those around her than her previous versions and was more talk than action when it came to actually injuring and maiming people. I didn t believe she would actually follow through with causing harm, despite unleashing piranhas on the polo team. She did it in defense of her brother which idk seems a bit off brand for the character. She also seems like the not like other girls type. The kinda girl that isn t like other girls but is ultimately liked by all the boys because she doesn t conform to societies rules she s different and they like that.
She says she doesn t care what people think but I didn t get that vibe at all.

Some people really like to see the worst even when it isn't there. I love this version of Wednesday, her excellence and abilities make sense as she is ridiculously smart and has to use that grey matter of hers. As for being without depth. I mean. come on people! Jenna and the whole team of writers and directors did a marvelous job. It's not perfect, but nothing is, and there is enough to love and appreciate not to have to search for the tiny beast (don't know if that phrase translates literally tho haha)

In the cartoon series from the 90s she constantly tortured Pugsley in all sorts of ingenious ways involving engineering, sports (archery, fencing, or rather stabbing but you can extrapolate from there that she would definitely be into fencing as her father is, and, well, macabre stuff. I d say it s plenty established that she is insanely capable. What I mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg as I haven t seen that cartoon in over 20 years so I only remember a few bits and pieces.

Why are some fans complaining. Become some people just want to find something to complain about. And don't even know what a Mary Sue is. Wednesday wasn't perfect and in fact was wrong alot especially about important things and people. As was part of her character arch. Heck one of the first things established when getting to the school was showing she was not the best fencer. That some things she's all knowing miss the point she's not all knowing but she ThHINKS she's all knowing

Really her extra curriculars are not social for her. Playing the cello can be done alone (but let's not talk about the principal signing her up to play with a band from normie school without even giving sheet music as if Wednesday can play anything without the music or practice) as can writing books. Fencing is the only thing she can not do alone but in this show they say Morticia fences as well as indicating Gomez still fences, so fencing is a family thing.

Mary Sue. Let me count the ways that doesn't work:
1) Kicked out of previous school.
2) Loses at fencing to Bianca (who makes for an awesome rival, and it's nice to see someone else be super competent. And really, if she was going to be perfect at something, fencing would make sense since her parents are both experts.
3) Gets dumped by the guy who was crushing on her for using him.
4) Continually fails to solve the mystery.

iv seen very few complaints so this prob just an attention peice but also the point of the show isnt growth too ebcome good at these things the whole point is her knowing her abilities and thsu doesent rely on others and rejects social interaction the show is about her learning too overcome these things and ultimately become a better person while maintaining her signature snarky dead pan tone and humour

And who exactly are these people complaining? I'm betting they're mostly the same guys who whine every time a major franchise casts a Black actor or a woman.
Extra hilarity points for criticising anything from the Addams Family world for being unrealistic. Though come to think of it, that's similar to whining that having Black characters in the worlds of Tolkien or GRR Martin isn't historically accurate.

She's not a Mary Sue, I think she's presented more as a neuro-divergent savant. Her behavior is not necessarily a choice. And an introvert can perform very well in specific situations that seem social, such as performing music or acting or even fencing. We are introduced to her capabilities at the start so we know what we're dealing with, then the whole season is about exploring her struggles.
