Why Avatar 2 Still Isn't Enough For The Movie Industry

The theater industry is going to need a lot more than a jug of tulkun brain juice to gain immortality, and Avatar 2's opening numbers aren't turning out to be the magic sauce James Cameron hoped for. kepszlok: Well, I did seen TG Maverick 6 times in cinema. And there will be more if they will play it again. It has interesting story, characters and incredible aerial footage with emotional rollercoaster.
On the other hand, I did seen Avatar 2 only once. It has stunning visuals, but that's about it. The villain, the story, and the decisions of the characters are mediocre at best. Just like in Avatar 1.

The Theatre Industry can't rely on ONE MOVIE. Any one movie. Before the Pandemic there were always at least a dozen movies showing at any given time. Now, there's like 3 or 4. It's the selection. It's the fact that too many GOOD MOVIES go straight to streaming or now are made for streaming. I get it, I stream a lot and enjoy watching things at home too. but I LOVE the Theatre Experience, adn it saddens me sooooooo many people just sit at home these days.

It wasn t a terrible box office at all, it all depends on word of mouth now tbh. Top Gun Maverick only made as much as it did due to mainly good word of mouth. Avatar will probably at least make 900 million plus. Cameron s comments on what the movie needs to make was just him trying to hype up the movie and was a lot more than what it would actually need, it would only need about 900 million to make a profit.

We have giant TVs with superb sound systems. Why pay to sit in a theater with sticky floors, uncomfortable seats, and screaming kids in the background? We always wait until movies are available to stream nowadays. I think the last time I went to a theater was an IMAX to see LoTR. :D (The first one)

Movie plot was pretty dull, seems like the kids were literally causing the majority of the problems the whole movie, multiple times. They should have definitely had a better story lined out for the amount of time and money they used. Definitely did not feel I like a worthy sequel

It was a disappoinment! Chose to watch it on launch day and it was the first movie that I Chose to watch but kept looking at my watch - are we done yet!
I could have easily sat through double the length of Maverick, which was an audio, visual & dialogue treat!

One quick point, Cameron was talking domestically when he mention he mentioned your referenced numbers. The third or fourth biggest film domestically. Therefore, it doesn't need 2 billion dollars to break even
reply

Well tickets costing so much is a factor and streaming has made people stay indoors more. This isn t unlike what happened when TVs came into homes in the 40 s and forever hurt cinemas since then
reply

I ve watched it 3 times, plan on at least 2 more, and I ve dragged people who didn t wanna watch it, and they come out loving it, they even thanked me for dragging them to it.

3: 20 - nobody cares about Ant Man or Creed. John Wick might do well tho, but neither of those films I would make the effort to see in the cinema
reply

The problem is they're focused on making large grossing movies when you should focused on making good movies that will becomes classics

It s gonna hit 1 billion in the first 2 weeks. How is that bad? Then I think 2 billion in 4 weeks and 3 billion in 16 weeks roughly
reply

even if the box office isnt as big as projected, the bidding war from streaming services will take it over the profit line.
