November is Epilepsy Awareness Month! Here are some important facts you should know about epilepsy. Did you know that there are a number of factors involved? Epilepsy can develop at any stage of life, but it most commonly manifests during childhood or old age. Though it affects people of all ethnicities, individuals of Hispanic descent appear to be more susceptible. Head injuries, strokes, family history, dementia and brain infections have all been shown to increase the risk

I have hallucinations with my seizures. Medicine is helping. At first I didnt realize that I was having seizures and my hallucinations often involved seeing people and pets that had died. One day I had a full conversation with my grandma completely unaware of the fact that she had died years ago and it was just a hallucination. When I was diagnosed and given medication I was hesitant to take it because I felt like I was loosing loved ones all over again. But I know it was all in my mind and I needed to take care of myself. But now Im getting pain in my heart and breathing difficulties. I have heart valve disease but its been mild and I havent had pain in my chest quite like this before so out of curiosity I looked up if lamictol could affect the heart and it can! So I have to call my doctor in the morning and see what he thinks would be a good alternative to try. Side effects are scary! Sometimes the meditation can be worse than the disease! Before when I was on keppra I wanted to get in the car and drive into the river. It was terrifying! I told everyone to hide their car keys from me just in case. I dont know what is worse sometimesthe illness or the treatment!

I appreciate spreading awareness. Seizures arent guaranteed to stay controlled, some people cant control seizures with medications, and a person can have more than one type of seizure. Never hold a person who is having a seizure down, never put anything in their mouth, always put something under a persons head, turn them on their side if possible for better breathing. The recovery stage (post ictal) after a seizure is finished can have a variety of reactions from the epileptic from looking drunk, loss of communication, being combative, just needing sleep, to confusion, and many more. If a person has a seizure, time it, video tape it if you can, and you dont need to call 911 unless the seizure lasts more than 5 minutes, there are multiple seizures repeating, or its the first seizure. Look for medical ID like an ID bracelet, a medical card in a wallet, or emergency medical information that is accessible from the phone under the word emergency. The person may have a list of people to contact and should never be left alone until they are fully aware. They should not drive.

Id appreciate any input on my situation:
I recently have been having a lot of convulsions for the last eight months where I lose control of parts of my body like my head, torso or arm, and have sudden jerking movements, but Im completely aware and can have full cognitive function. It started where I had to be hospitalized for having what seemed to be 26 seizure type symptoms in a day. I always feel a pain in the right side of my brain, and a tingling sensation in my muscles before they involuntary convulse. I have no brain damage from the incidents, and the seizure medication makes it worse. Its happening about five or six times a day now and can last for up to three hours an episode. Would this be considered a form of seizing even though Im aware of it?
If anyone has an opinion on this Id appreciate the input! Im really confused and its exhausting, and Ive reached the extent of my ability to try and understand my situation. Thanks

I became epileptic at the age of 12. I had taken different medications, but none seamed to work fully. Thirteen days before my 26th birthday, I underwent temporal lobe lobectomy. I had been on medications until about 6 years ago; the last medications I had taken were lamotragen and topirimate (I may have misspelled these. I have had a few seizures in the last three years, usually one or two seizures per year. I can tell you a world of difference being off my medications. I thought I was never going to be off. The first time my doctor attempted weaning me off, I resulted in a seizure while driving and lost my license for a year. I just want everyone to be hopeful in getting control of your seizures because there was a time when I had doubt that I would.

Im 26 and started having seizures at like 19 after suffering with extreme OCD. I remember having auras as a child tho and didnt know what they were. Again, I remember auras, but never had seizures until I started panicking, stressing, and never getting rest due to the OCD. The OCD got bad around 18. Ive been seizure free for at least two years now, and Im currently on Aptiom. Ive been making serious changes and recovering from OCD. I have noticed the constant fog, slowness, and problems thinking and coordinating from Aptiom. On the 8th, I see my neurologist about weening off of medication. I hope I can safely ween off of the medication. I also havent had an aura probably at least two years.

I am suffering from epilepsy from 6 years. Even after taking prescribed medications, it just don't go away. After trying everything, i have lost myself and i just want to go away from this life. I tried every type of things that i could try, after 3 months, i would be going away from my family and everyone is afraid that i should not go alone. Even though I am 18, i will not be able to learn anything and be dependent on my family for everything. doctors are not able to find the cause of my epilepsy and i am just so disgusting now. Meri life jhand ho gyi h bs.

I know what it is to just live and survive such a tough condition. If treatment is not done early, it could result in side effects like minor to severe headaches which could possibly last days. Early treatment is the best thing to do. When you get such epileptic seizures, you can get involuntary body movement. This can frequently occur where the head and neck is located (but that not just depends on the type of epileptic seizure, but it also has to do with how severe it could be.

A few nights ago I lit up a cigarette and walking home with my mother, I fell into a seizure and fell on my back and head and my mother told me I was shaking and spit coming out my mouth. I still dont know whats the main reason why it happened but it was scary because I have no consciousness until I was in the ambulance. Now I have a concussion in my head now I get dizzy sometimes and it really sucks. Seizures are no joke. if it happens at the wrong time it can be death.

I have a very scary and weird type of epilepsy it makes me have da ja vu from dreams. I start to feel like Im passing out and Im dying my head feels like Im dying. The neurologist have said he dont know if I actually am dying when it feels like I am. When it first started happening I was scared to get help I thought everyone would think I was crazy. I was very surprised when I told the symptoms and they knew what I was talking about. And they did not call me crazy.

I was born with epilepsy. I went from the generalized epilepsy, to the tonic colonic epilepsy, to the now partial epilepsy but it seems people who does not have it is only familiar with one form of seizures and thats the generalized epilepsy. My seizure is only stable with medication, if I miss one the next day my generalized seizure would be present

Anything with the brain and treatment is a guessing game. The brain is so vastly complex. I live with major depressive disorder with psychotic features aka hallucinations. I take Prozac and Gabapentin (ironically enough an anti seizure med) to treat my depression. I do well these days, Stay strong everyone and much love to all of you!

I've had seizures since middle school. My last seizure was 2016. Thankfully my medication has been working as much as I rather be off it. I also took a huge risk of being pregnant with my daughter when I was off the medication for a year. So thank god I didn't get my last one until after I had her in 2015.
