Top 10 Harry Potter Actors Who Were Replaced in the Sequels Richard Harris was the perfect Dumbledore, he was the way you would imagine by reading the books. That gentle, calm and full of wisdom figure that Harry, the others teachers and members of the Order look up to.
People are missing a important part of the book, Harris wasnt too gentle to play Dumbledore. Dumbledore from the books was very gentle and at the same time very powerful, but he didnt had to show that part of him until The Goblet of Fire at least. Thats when Harry started noticing that behind the old man and glasses was a very powerful wizard, but also a gentle person that didnt need to show his powers. That to me is what made Dumbledore and Harris portrayal so amazing, he gave the same vibes and impression you get reading the books.
Michael Gambon was good, but it was a shoe too big to fill after Harris. Such a shame that he passed away after the Chamber of Secrets.\r\n

I think each Albus Dumbledore gave their own enchanting twist to the character, with Richard Harris being a kind and clever grandfather like figure, and Michael Gambon being the old, wise, and powerful wizard who fought Voldemort longer than anyone else. R. I. P. Richard Harris, he was a great actor. Personally, I think both their portrayals were to be respected equally. Though I think Richard Harris's version was closer to the books, Michael Gambon's powerful vibe was more fitting for the situation.

Most of those are insignificant bit characters I never heard of and would never have noticed the actor change if not pointed out here. Dumbledore was the only one that I recognize. Well and obviously Voldemort was different as a kid and as a. whatever it is he became.
One I actually did notice that they left out was Fudge, from what looks like President James Buchanan to Robert Hardy.

i mean. there's also cedric diggory who changed actors between 3 and 4.
also technically flitwick didn't appear in 3, he was credited as 'the choirmaster' because alfonso curaon wanted to use warrick davies but flitwick didn't appear so he was given the alternative look and role which mike newell and david yates liked so they kept the look when they directed the rest of the series.

They really should have mentioned the fact that Ian Mckellen was actually offered the role of dumbledore, but the reason he said no was that at the time he was in New Zealand working on Lord of the Rings as Gandalf, and also Richard Harris did not approve of him as an actor, so he said he wouldnt take the role.

Actually hate how basically everyone was replaced after the first 2/3 movies. I think Chris Columbus did an amazing job on casting everyone and for the first movies. I really liked the 3rd movie, but everything after that just went straight downhill. The director just did everyone dirty.

the audiobooks with Jim Dale I thought was a wonderful interpretation, voices and all. but the second Dumbledore he has not good. he played the character as an angry man, very arrogant in nature. did not like him. I think that is why the author kill him off in the book. lol

This video is horrrible. Does no attempt to actually clearly show you the first actor and second actor most especially with the Lavenda Brown character. They show her for a split second at most, no close up, freeze frame nothing.

Like i understand the actor died which explains the recasting i just don't like the personality change. The replacement was a not the same person. Too serious and for some reason wore a completely different outfit.
reply

I preferred the 1st Dumbledore. But you guys have a point that the 2nd Dumbledore was better for the darker scenes/movies. Again though; I still favor 1st Dumbledore! He seemed more wise and caring.
reply

Sorry, HP book people but i liked second Dumbledore more. I think its only reasonable that great wizard and great school headmaster is a bit rough. If you think about it he kinda needs to be

Dumbledore in the books was gentle, calm, and was a thoughtful person whom Harris portrayed skillfully.
However well Michael did, Harris was and always will remain the best Dumbledore.

My nephew keep saying that Dumbledore is Gandalf in Lord of the ring and I said he's not but passing throough the Chamber of Secrets, he is Correct

What about Elphias Doge? At Order of the Phoenix was portrayed by Peter Cartwright, but in Deathly Hallows part 1 he was portrayed by David Ryall
reply

There was a suggestion that Peter OToole was going to replace Harris as Dumbledore and that happened, the film series wouldve been so much better
reply

The first actress to play Pansy Parkinson had a fitting last name. Her last name was Gaunt, which is the same last name as Voldemorts grandpa
reply

Michael did well, Richard just had this lite gentle vibe. That just screams pure hearted wizard. Michael has more a stern strict demeanor
reply

I never know about dumbledore, it surprises me. But for the other caracters i just thought they are different caracters not replacing
reply

I noticed the changes just didn't get to confirm it HAHA Dumbledore's Voice, the Musics teacher's looks, the Weasley bro
reply

I think Peter O'Tool would of been a better replacement. People often mistaken Harris and O'Tool, Harris even laughed about it!
reply

dumbledor's personality completely changed with the changing of the actor, this was one of the biggest problems in the movies
reply

Marcus Flint was the played by the same guy in 1 & 2. Theakston played Terrence Higgs, the Slytherin seeker in the first movie.
reply

Richard Harris was amazing but such a shame it happens 2 him so soon. But Michael who was gandor also was fantastic as well.
