Them, talking about Lost in the Woods: Who isn't here for this?
Me: Me. I'm not here for this. It was the part of the movie I hated most.
Honestly, it was the only part of the movie I hated. I had issue with some other things, but I didn't really dislike them. Just thought they could've been explained/executed better.
As for your fixes, I'd very much disagree with a lot of them to be honest. I feel like the kidnapping idea is a huge disservice to Anna. Yeah, they _could_ do a spin on the damsel in distress thing, but I feel like that would bog down the movie.
At it's heart, the movie is focused on a worldly balance between nature and the mystical. A kind of metaphor for Elsa. Being born in the natural world but also bestowed with mystical gifts. A bridge between the two. Something I feel was their intent with the whole fifth spirit thing, but just wasn't quite articulated well enough in the movie.
The conflict in the film (the balance being broken by the grandfathers actions and sealing off the Enchanted Forest until the balance is restored and the mistakes rectified, is very much an allegory for the confliction inside Elsa throughout the movie. You made a joke about the villain coming in so late in the movie, but I don't think that was meant to be the _real_ villain. The grandfather was made the 'villain' as a result of the actual villain of the movie, which is the conflict within ourselves. Our fears, self doubts, anger and hatred. It's those feelings and thoughts that can cause us to act in wrong or violent ways in any given situation. The grandfather let his fear dictate how he treated the Northuldra and ultimately caused the forest to become closed off for 3 whole decades. Elsa previously let her fear of her powers cause her to close herself off so tight, that when her emotions bubbled up, she lost all the control she had previously as a kid and ended up hurting those around her, like Anna. In 2, Elsa may have the freedom to use her powers without fear, but she still deals with the anxiety of having bottled them up over all those years. Her line about 'making a big mistake' in Into the Unknown is evidence of that.
You mentioned that you didn't understand why she was singing that song. Well, I believe it's about her still feeling out of place in Arendelle. Yes, she does have the life she always wanted; Anna knowing about her powers again and the freedom to use them without fear, but despite that, she still feels like there's something missing. She still feels out of place. I think that's because she doesn't WANT to be Queen. Being Queen means she's always being watched/looked to by her people, and because of how she grew up in fear of her powers, I think that caused her to develop anxiety. That anxiety can cause her to be very critical of herself and amplify her worries, including the worries about making any mistakes. With her being Queen, she feels under pressure and she's afraid of letting down her people. She's still imprisoned by her fear without knowing it. It's why she takes the journey to the forest. Not only is she curious about the Voice and what answers it might hold, but she also knows it's what she must do for her people's safety. She's responsible for waking the spirits afterall and so she'd still feel that worry about making a 'mistake' that's affected her people.
Throughout the film we deal with that confliction within Elsa, so once she finally finds the Voice and answers in Show Yourself, she feels truly free. She's being told by her mother, an authority figure, someone she's close to and whose opinion she greatly values, that just being herself is enough and she needs to do what's right for her AND her people. It mirrors the conflict in the world balance. Once the scales are tipped back to alignment by destroying the dam, once the wrongs of the past have been righted, the forest becomes free again. It's Elsa breaking free of what she _thinks_ is supposed to be her life and actually _living_ it, her way. Her saving Arendelle is her acknowledging her past has made her who she is but not letting it define who she's going to be moving forward. That's why she stays in the forest and hands the kingdom over to Anna.
For Anna, the kingdom is enough. It's where she grew up with her family, however limited their time together may have been. It's where her love story with Kristoff began. It's where she rediscovered Elsa's powers and reconnected with her again. It's home for her. So long as she knows Elsa's ok and happy, she's content with staying there, building a life of her own with Kristoff and helping her people.
While the story did indeed lack a lot for Anna, I think that's because the film was never supposed to BE her story. The first film was. This one is Elsa's story.

Here are my suggestions to clean up the story arc. Into the Woods didn't highlight the relationship between Ana and Christof very well. Get This Right would have been a better choice. It showed his character and his awkwardness towards asking Ana to be his bride, which would have been a continuation of the duet between Hans and Ana in the first one. It would have by past all his failed attempts to ask her in one song. Which I think, would move the story along.
Cut Somethings Never Change. The catalyst for Elsa's character is to find her place, within her relationships. Now, that Ana has gotten engaged, what would that look like for her? Would she be expected to marry? Does she really want to rule? Relationally, would things change between her and Ana? Etc.
Play the siren song up when she was a child or when she was locked away; that's how it can be really about Elsa. By the time we hear, Into the Unknown, we have more connection to Elsa and her character arc. Christof wouldn't care to go on the adventure because he'd understand, he and Ana are good. He'd demonstrate trust in allowing Ana and Elsa to borrow Sven and his sleigh. When he says he's not comfortable with that, it shows his fear, mistrust, and anxiety.
Elsa should have destroyed the castle. All the townspeople had left and were far enough away to be safe. It would symbolize the faulty foundation Arrendale was built upon, colonization. Elsa and the elements would rebuild the castle to incorporate the native people because she and Ana ARE Netholdran. It would symbolize a true partnership and that Elsa is connected to both Arrendale and the forest. Which would bring the practice of magic back.

I fell in love with the Frozen universe and with Elsa back in 2013 and Frozen 2 didnt disappoint me at all. I loved it under every aspect. Elsas journey of self-acceptance was beyond amazing and when I saw Show Yourself for the first time I was hit right in the feelings. I never witnessed something that resembled my experience so perfectly as Elsas journey. Its so important. Also, I absolutely loved Anna and her character in this sequel, and all her dark experience too. The only thing that maybe could have been done better is the structure of the movie: they need to give animated movies more running time so they can explain things better (personally I wouldnt cut the deleted scenes. It was a phenomenal movie and I loved it. This movie, this franchise focuses on the characters personality, on their emotional journeys. It is so important and super rare for a movie to do so (even more for an animated movie. Seeing myself, again, as Elsa was a physical and emotional experience: a girl with anxiety, unable to find a place where she belongs, who at least understands that the only one is looking for is herself, for me is EVERYTHING.

Loved this analysis. Disneys storytelling really fell short- not in the technical areas, because the movie was so beautiful in the score and the art and so many delightful moments, but it was entirely disjointed and made zero sense?
I felt the same way about the first Frozen movie too.
I especially loved your suggestion about Anna being kidnapped. The lack of a clear villain does create difficulty in storytelling bc the characters goals are not as clear. But a villain would have really unified their journeys, and like you said, made for a legitimate reason for Anna and Elsa to be separated because that really pissed me off, how it was almost celebrated that Elsa pushed Anna away and went on her own journey of self-discovery when we literally just underscored the importance of sisterly love and teamwork?
Like dont get me wrong, her journey to Atohallan was super bad ass and I would hate to loose that, but it was also uncharacteristically and unhealthily selfish.
Elsa is definitely not the kind of person I want as a role model based on her behavior in this movie, and thats a great shame on you, Disney.

I would have liked it if Elsa was hearing the voice in the tail end of the first movie cuz it kinda come outta no where, and was brushed off with no consequences
It was coming off that their mother had wind powers or at least the wind spirit bonded to their mother? So it would have been kinda cute to see that Gale was their mother still watching over. I would have liked more Elsa/Christoph moments without Anna, and it was clear that Anna loved him but it was more in adultish sly jokes than direct on Disney love.
To me, The first half of the movie tried to set up the rest but they kinda failed at keeping a connected storyline it still felt like 2 different movies smashed into one, a frozen origin/ a frozen adventure
Elsas story is more on knowing who she is and less about self love, and thats something I wished was more clear than the last 20mins of the movie, that both sisters can survive without their intense relationship.
But I kinda get that Elsa is/was reckless without her sister and Anna has not true direction if Elsa isnt guiding her impulses, until Christoph steps in and also helps

The fact that you guys LIKED Lost in the Woods lost you a lot of credibility in my book.
I'd fix the movie by actually having the water and earth spirits weakened, like the elder of the Northaldren said the dam was doing. Have little earth golems (maybe the size of Marshmallow) and little water ponies/horses that merge into the big one. Have the earth golems throw small rocks at the top of the dam so it's not clear what exactly they're trying to do. Then at the end when they figure out that the dam is the problem have the Arendalians and Northaldran work together to build catapults and launch bigger boulders brought by the earth golems. And have Elsa on the other side with the water equines focusing on the opposite side of the dam. That way everyone contributes and comes together at a single point both figuratively and literally. Then have the earth golems get big and help slow down the water rushing out of the destroyed dam giving Elsa and the newly formed water horse enough time to gallop through the water to Arendelle and avert it.

Elsa was Frozen of course yah because he just said it when she heard that her grand father feared. Their grandfather feared of the northuldra follows magic that they would defy the will of a king. Then Elsa followed the shadow-snow all the way to the pit. Elsa here was feared what would her grandfather do. Like Elsa said fear is can't be trusted. When she dive down to the sound, she was afraid what will to their grandpa. After discovering that their grandpa is the one cause about the past, she was feared. That time she can't control her fears and leads it to froze herself. The only thing to do is the nxt right thing. The only thing to do is to send the truth to Anna.
I think if Elsa don't have fears she probably go back and break the dam. But the ending is base on the beginning when Anna and Elsa playing.
Kid Elsa said: they free the fairy Queen and save everyone!
Elsa said end: the spirits all agree arendelle deserve to stands.

I think that the creators wanted to show how Anna and Elsa are so close that it kind of puts pressure on the other aspects of their lives. I think this is the movie that finally allows Elsa to fully accept that she is what she has been waiting and longing for. Her magic called for something and the voice answered leading her to find where she truly belonged and was born for. She was meant to bring peace for the forest. Anna was doting after her sister so much it paused her and Kdristoff's relationship. She needed to be basically forced to realize that she needed to start leading her life and the people of their kingdom. When she thought she lost Elsa she realized she needed to do the next right thing no matter the personal cost or grief she felt. That was the perfect lesson she needed to step into the role as Queen. All in all I think this is better than the first because it brings everything to a close in a well rounded way.

I don't think you're flim fix is good kidnapping would be a terrible idea into the unknown represent the conflict that Elsa had with her self the flim still focused on the sisters and show yourself is earned because we have the ground work on frozen with Elsa's childhood and her never feeling accepted and Elsa pushed Anna away because she doesn't want her to be dead if Anna had come she would be dead and Elsa freezing is great because that tested Anna if she's able to be a queen everything you guys said it's just missreprisenting there are so many good analysis of the movie that's why Elsa didn't want Anna to come and the villan wasn't thrown in the last minute we needed explanations for the problems if we wouldn't have known why sprits were angry frozen 2 is truly better than the first movie
reply

Has everyone suddenly become retarded in the last 6 years. Its not a hard movie to understand. Her mother was part of The oldest Northuldra family. She knew how to call the spirts. The 5th spirt lost her physical form a long time before the events of the movie. It begins to call on her leading her to the answers. It's a mix of her mother and the spirit calling. When she steps on the fifth thing with the rest of the spirts she becomes the ice spirit, its why she gets a new dress, because she is the bridge each of the spirits which are separat from their physical forms add something to the dress. Their was never an enemy I. The movie. It was simply about Elsa and Anna undoing something that cause the spirits to vanish until the 5th one called on them again

Just so you know I disliked this video I agree that this movie was probably rushed in some areas and certain things were probably taken out that should have replaced other things but it doesnt not make sense, there are multiple storylines that dont all connect perfectly but most of it still makes works well.
Elsa is the only person that can hear the voice in Erindale, only the spirits hear the voice this is made clear when the little gecko fire spirit follows the voice and Elsa attempts to follow him
also at the very beginning of the movie she hears the voice and immediately asks one of her advisers if he heard the voice and he clearly did not because hes not magical.

Im probably one of the only people who will say I loved the movie, almost all of it. only thing I would change is the cheesy 80s music video effect that is Christoffs solo song lost in the woods lol and yall saying show yourself was better than into the unknown, I love them both but I cant stop singing Into the Unknown. Show yourself was beautiful but didnt have that memorability to me shrugs to each their own. Its not meant to be broken down and analyzed this deeply, its a movie, enjoy it. it made sense, it was beautiful, it was deep & metaphorical (without needing to be micro-analyzed) beautiful, and sweet. I liked it better than the first one, as did my kids. 10/10

Elsa going to the deep end was good idea, but a bit of a dud. Base is laid earlier about her own and ancestral quilt and fears of doing right with her powers. But instead of having dramatic Song or something where she battles with her innerself to be finally frozen by her own anxiety, we got something lame. Annas love is the solution, would have made then more psycological sense, because what anxious people need is someone saying you are ok and I accept you. I think writers had this cause It is much implied, but some executive board said, this is Disney and that is too Deep to our snowflake kids. So instead of great movie we have only good: (

I super hesitated to see this movie because the thing that I really really really REALLY liked about Frozen was that it was the first Disney Princess movie that didnt end with the characters getting married. I thought this was a huge and amazing step forward into the 21st century for Disney and I was worried that Frozen 2 would ruin this. .. And it did.
Honestly, frozen 2 was fine, but not good. To me, it had no catchy stand-out music and the plot was convoluted, which was surprising since Frozen had so many great songs. Other than making a buttload of money, I cant see what the point of making this movie was.

reply

If I may take a shot.
What if we kept the voice and Elsa wants to leave so, loving Anna trusts her sister to come back while she remains to keep Arendelle running.
Elsa spends the rest of the film by herself, making new friends while trying to solve the conflict. That of the two tribes who are still at war and have added further damage to the forest. She is learning to accept herself and her role as a leader, tames the spirits and saves the day.
Upon returning home, she let's Anna know of her experience and states that she will rule Northuldra and secedes Arendelle to Anna. Kristoff proposes. The end.

reply

I don't actually agree with those opinions. I really loved it and I don't know if it's because me and my sister are Anna and Elsa in everything or because we are going through what they went through in this movie (minus the magic, since she is going to study abroad as this is her only choice (she is a history teacher and in Brazil that's really hard, we are extremely sad and I can't see a life without her by my side (Anna's solo became my song for this moment, but we related to absolutely everything in the movie. I think this one is way better than the original.
reply

Actually I really enjoyed the movie I love how they went deeper into the Elsa's backstory and shed some light on why their parents died. To be honest I'm glad it focuses more on Elsa and not the romance, or sister relationship since the first movie showed how much someone can accomplish more when their on their own and let it go and this movie doesn't lack the relationship between Anna or Christoff since this movie IS about her and it shows all of her potential and how strong she really is. While also showing that you don't have to do everything on your own.
reply

The ultimate soultion was that Disney made whole bunch of things into two movies, then they would have sufficient film length to handle everything properly including the sources of Elsa's power, the revelation of Elsa's destiny, how Anna adapt the change of her sisterhood with Elsa, the development of the relation between Anna and Kristoff, and also, selling every songs and Elsa's outfits they desired. For me, Anna is the best part of Frozen2 and the only thing works well was the solid sisterhood; apart from these, everything was in a mess.
reply

Hes looking for a reason why Elsa needed to go into the unknown or be conflicted of where she needs to be etc There doesnt need to be a physical reason (he mentioned anna being kidnapped) for someone to not feel satisfied with where they are in life. Her mind, body, soul & powers know they belong elsewhere, dont feel at home, arent happy just being where she is etc Has no one ever felt that they were meant for something more, something bigger or better even though they have happiness in life? Not hard to understand imo
reply

Personally, being a fan of Frozen and having Frozen define my career path, Frozen 2 is leaps and bounds better than the first one. The animation is outstanding. Look at the colours - how much livelier the characters look. What is more, I not only think that they continued exploring the sisterly bond, nut also that they even crossed a line between two sisters loving each other and two real lovers. This is something I would change because there were moments when they went too far.
reply

Watching their commentary on how to they would change Frozen 2. I feel like they almost weren't watching the movie. Into the Unknown she outright says she has everything she loves but she still feels like something is missing, which sparks the whole movie.
Complaining Elsa dying Go to deep and you'll be drowned IT WAS IN A SONG. She essentially drowned.
I understood plots and everything the first time I saw it. I wouldnt change ANYTHING.

Frozen II is a worthy sequel to its predecessor, but the original is still the best. The franchise is tied with The Lion King as the greatest Disney animated movie of all time. The sequel has better music than the last soundtrack and I believe that when the Broadway musical hits the stage, the writers will add what was not in the second movie to the Broadway show. All in all Frozen II was a better sequel than Ralph Breaks the Internet.
reply

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that doesn't mean that you guys can do a better job, and your version of the movie wouldn't have detractors as well. I thought your videos usually focused on the good side of things. Life is already full of haters, not looking forward to seeing more videos. The same can be said about every single movie ever created, there's always somebody that thinks that it needs to be fixed. Thumbs down
reply

The ideas presented for fixing the movie are essentially thus, The first movie but backward, and awkward. I don't think the movie you presented would be better. What hurt the movie most for me was the super predictable and cliche story. From the very first storytelling sequence, I knew the king's dad was a the bad guy and the damn was the bad thing. The journey was fun but again, predictable.
reply

Also, what ARE Elsas powers? Ice, water, creating snow or controlling it? This is terrible fantasy writing in how her powers work in whatever way is convenient for the story. Why are her powers stronger in this movie?
We see a hint at an explanation in Olafs cut song, but her powers are never clearly defined.
I could no longer suspend belief when she started water-bending

reply

Kid Anna: who care about danger? When there's Love? Muah muah
Kid Elsa: oh Anna bleh kissing on saving the Frozen?
When they started journey to north Anna asked kristoff;
Anna: so what you wanna do? Anna lips moooooo
But failed on kiss
After that the whole journey is Nothing kissing scene.
Elsa's mind; left kristoff for no kiss on saving the forest

reply

I liked it a lot, but I was very confused at the end with how her powers were working and how that tied in with her mom. I agree that the movie was doing a lot, but I think if some things could have been explained more thoroughly it would have been even better. The idea of Kristoff and Elsa being paired to go save Anna is something I can get behind as well.
reply

I agree with pretty much everything you said here. Unfortunately I feel the main issue was that the script was cut and changed so
many times during production that cased the overall story to suffer. I feel the prequel book Frozen 2 the forest of shadows had a better story, overall
still an amazing movie and one dear to my heart.

reply

I was a little disappointed in how the movie turned out I mean we've been waiting for seven years for the sequel to come out and this is why I don't believe in sequels when it comes to Disney. Disney sequels suck ass! Hell even ones where it's so cringy and confusing we pretend there was no such thing as a sequel to the original.
reply

The voice thats calling Elsa in the majority of the movie is literally representing a calling or passion in someones life. But I dont think very many people understand this because not everyone has a passion thats calling them, and plus things like that are extremely conflicting and complicated sometimes to think about.
