Honestly, here's the problem with TV finales today, whether a sit-com, drama, soap opera, thriller, crime, or sci-fi. When you're going to end you're show, especially when every season gets better than the first or last one after it, you need to remember: A finale needs to be everything a finale should be. Raise the stakes, take your characters into new places they hadn't been before (I mean that both figuratively and literally, depending on the show one makes, make character arcs come full circle, maybe some emotional payoffs, and even give the audience something that may have been not revealed until the end. You can even use the finale to resolve any issues people may have with the previous seasons of your show. But all in all, THE MAIN THING your finale needs to give in the end, is CLOSURE; both for the show, characters and story all together. You see, when you watch a series, you all have to agree that one of the things you would want in the end of a show is to give closure. Because if a finale ends with too much open and unresolved, then what's the point (Even though there are some cases where that's the nature for some shows and their endings?
It's like being serve a meal at a restaurant. Good meals will be the ones that leave you full that you don't need more. But if someone serves you a tiny amount of the meal, and you get asked if you enjoyed it, deep down, you will say, Yeah, but I kind of wished for a little more, except their response will be But that's the beauty of it. The fact that you want more is what makes it great. But does it really? Because I don't think so. It's the same with a finale.

I think the Seinfeld ending is perfect, they finally face consequences for their indifference to other humans lol and in jail, at the end of the episode, Jerry and George have the same exact conversation they had in the first scene of the first episode. That shows that they havent grown as people in any way which perfectly fits as its a show about nothing so in the end theyve learned nothing and havent grown at all lol. Its the exact opposite of what is supposed to happen in movies, shows, books etc, where characters are supposed to develop. Its a pretty brilliant concept to end the series imo.

I have a thing, i read a a very abstract summary of sitcoms before even starting them, so. that i can. see whether i d be disappointed or not. how i met your mother was weird even before reading the plot. the only character i liked was marshall. n the ending wow. lol i just chose to not watch the sitcom n still stand by it. this series is creepy. like literally he told the story of his dead wofe just because he wanted to bang robin. wow so much respect for the wife.

I literally came here to see if you would throw shade at HIMYM.
If you were paying attention, the ending would not have been a surprise at all. It's How I MET Your Mother. Which means the story ends when they MEET.
He was telling them the story because she was dead. And considering all the kids scenes were filmed within the first few months of the show, it was their intention from the beginning.
But I seem to be the only one who liked it.

Honestly HIMYM should be #1. I never had a series finale make me that angry in my life. To this day, j have been unable to rewatch a single episode of that show because the finale ruined it so bad. Nothing like spending THE ENTIRE FINAL SEASON focusing on the wedding of Barney and Robin just to have them get divorced within the first 15 min of the finale. Not to mention having Ted FINALLY meet the mother and then promptly kill her off.

When they screw up an ending, they really screw it up. I started out watching some of these shows and stopped watching before the ending. I'm glad I did. Some I never watched and glad I didn't. I was just thinking about Seinfeld this week and how awful the ending was. Then here is the reason why. I think if you are going to end a series that is well loved, just end the damned thing. Don't do a goodbye ending, just do a regular show.

Roseanne's last 90's season should be dismissed, and Roseanne in past years should be thrown in the same trash can as Last Man Standing. Both dealing with older people in a world of LGBT+ and human rights, and never growing or resolving anything.
And yeah, HIMYM is just a bunch of subplots with a terrible main plot. Everyone watches running gags of that show, or certain storylines, but the main story never moved forward.

The Facts Of Life was very dissapointing it should've ended after season 8, Mork And Mindy jumped the shark when they gave birth Merth, was a disaster, was very dissapointing. but this one tops them all, Dinosaurs finale was very dissapointing, it was a huge bust the whole time. honorable mention Out Of This World season 4 was very dissapointing, she grew up gone, it was very dissapointing.

I loved the mother on HIMYM and was devastated when they killed her off 5 minutes after she entered the show! Ted and her was a match made in heaven and everything he was looking for. It just didnt make sense that he would go back to Robin. Not after HER! After having a life, a perfect one with the mother. Having said that he wouldve been better off with Victoria than Robin

The original Will and Grace finale was great and emotional. The 2020 reboot finale was disappointing because I wanted to see the babies be born! That and Seinfeld, How I Met Your Mother, Two and A Half Men, Alf, Moesha and (taking top spot in my mind like the list) Roseanne were all remembered by me as some of the most disappointing series finales.

Anyone who watched Seinfeld and complained about the ending did t get the point of the show! Hoping Jerry and Elaine would be together or some cheese ball ending is crazy. That show ended perfectly! Its one the best episodes. You can tell Larry David was all over it
Now. HIMYM. dont even get me going

A series that didnt have a good finale was The Facts of Life. Instead of giving the characters a good send-off, it was a setup for a spin-off that never happened. It wouldve been a great spin-off. It wouldve featured Blair whos my favorite character as headmistress of Eastland

This list was unsatisfying because they shouldnt have included shows that had a Cliff hanger ending due to a cancellation.
They should have done a Top 10 Unsatisfying sitcom endings and a separate video for Top 10 canceled Sitcoms that never got a proper ending

Why are those 'finales' always dreams? UGH. First with Bobby Euing on Dallas. That's been played out. They need to come up with something new. AND 'original'. There are no original shows anymore. Everything has been a 're-boot'.

Does the Smallville Finale count? I been following Clark Kent for 10 long years for him to don the suit and fly only to be ruined by a glimpse and a bunch of CGI effects and I never once seen Tom Welling wear the suit fully.

every since the finale, i like to call HIMYM How i settled for your mother that is really the story. Pines after robin for 10 years, then marries the first woman he meets after Robin gets married and is no longer available.

What made me the most annoyed about the end of HIMYM was that they'd been having Bob Saget playing Old Ted for the entire series's run, and then the finale instead just threw some aging makeup on Josh Radnor instead

The Seinfeld ending was brilliant and clever. They were all terrible people so it was the only logical ending to the series. An happy ending would have made no sense and ruin the whole purpose of the show.

On the flip side, here are the top 2 most satisfying sitcom endings:
2. Sabrina the Teenage Witch
1. The Big Bang Theory
Those 2 shows are an example of how a final episode should be done

while I'm sure we're all glad Roseanne's original final season was retconned, it still bugs me that Jackie's kid apparently no longer exists ( and neither does Jerry Garcia Connor it seems )

I didnt think it would be on this list due to it not being as its name says Popular. When o was a preteen I adored this show but it got cancelled right when Nicole was going to hit Brooke with her car

I never was a fan of the Robin/Ted relationship. or debacle. (Take your pick) And the fact that Ted's wife was killed off so he could get back together with Robin is, quite frankly, insulting.

I was kind of disappointed on the final on my name is earl, you don't find out who earl Jr father is, I also didn't think he completed his list. I was also disappointed on the two broke girls final.

Even though its an otherwise great episode, I am always very disappointed when the Friends finale shows Ross and Rachel getting back together. They are an awful couple and always were.

A good idea for a list, but think its unfair to include shows that didnt know that would be their last episode, especially the ones that had been given a promise of another season.
