When her mom turns into that Red Panda. That had me turning red. When I get angry, I see red. I get the jokes. But eventually. I eventually calmed down. When I get scared. I metaphorically panda myself. I whip myself into a frenzy. When my male hormones are high. I get easily frustrated. Then I get the period jokes. Even though I'm not a woman. I can understand the troubles of growing up. As a man. Things change about you. You develop broader shoulders. You get more hair. On the chin. Your voice gets deeper. That's what I'm. That's what a young boy has to deal with. And I had to deal with those things. Even though they're embarrassing. They're part of growing up. And the way that. Marilyn Lee's mom. Embarrassed her. Sometimes my parents embarrassed me. And I can relate to Maylin. In that way. Sometimes you're very close to your parents when you're really little. But when you grow up. You want to be more independent. You want to be more. On your own. Sometimes we may rebel. And wanted to do it our way. But sometimes your parents are there to support you. Even though they may not love your attitude. I hope I never panda. Like May Lin did. Her mom in turning red. Ming. Lee. It's so stinking hot. Come on. How can you not like a girl who could panda at any moment? One little anger thing. Can really set her off. The one thing turning red taught me. There's never keep your emotions inside. Otherwise, they will build and build. Till you get very angry as you say things you don't mean. Then you regretted a day later. And then you might regret it for the rest of your life. When you put too much pressure. To meet your parent's expectations. Sure, your parents did not make it big. That doesn't mean they had to put the pressure on you. They know you are your own person. That's what the movie turning red taught me. Don't be pressured into something. That your parents want you to do. You got to follow your own dreams. That's how I look at things. I had dreams to move to Florida. And I have dreams. To get married and have a family of my own. That's what I want. And desire. But as long as you put God first. Everything else will fall into place. And another being turning red taught me. Is don't be too hard on yourself when things don't go right. To add some of my experience to this. Your things did not go right for me in the beginning of my life. But. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. And don't sweat the small stuff. People get mad over every little thing that bothers them. What kind of trait is that? Have one little thing is disorganized. I get very mad. Then I turn red in the face. No pun intended.

I feel like most all of media caters to kids and what parents think is good for their kids. They are always the topic of discussion in things that cater to media like wanting more representation or wanting to add more topics considered taboo into content, or wanting to add swearing even if its just a little bit. One thing that relates to this would be back in the like 70s or 80s cursing used to be ok on the radio but parents felt their kids were too innocent for things like that so they pushed to get it censored and it did it was censored and now the radio is unbearable to listen to especially cause they just showed their kids songs with swearing in it anyways. Parents want to keep their kids young and innocent forever they have always wanted that but sometime they are gonna have to realize that part of your child growing older is them needing to learn about those taboo topics they want so badly to keep away from them. Parents have always been so afraid of teaching their children about topic like these which leads those children to get freaked out when those things actually happen to them and grow up increasingly becoming annoyed by their parents and the way they hide things from them. Anyways turning red was such a breath of fresh air and really highlights the middle school experience for girls especially girls going through puberty

To be honest, Disney shouldn't have made this movie in the first place. While some people see this movie as a 'beautiful' coming-of-age story, others see it as disgusting, socially unacceptable, and disturbing. In a nutshell, this movie is about A HORNY 13-YEAR-OLD ON HER PERIOD THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE DAMN THING! Do you want to know the kind of person who would actually enjoy this movie, other than blissfully ignorant children, the idiot grown-ups who actually like this movie, and Disney themselves? I will gladly tell you. The answer: PEDOPHILES & ZOOPHILES! Grown men (or women) who get off to underage children, as well as people who do the same but with animals! I said it before and I'll sure as shit say it again. DISNEY SHOULDN'T HAVE MADE THIS PEDOBAIT!

In the beginning of the movie her moms thinks she has her first period, but obviously she does not since her mum just misunderstands her about what she says about the panda. This means that first period will be an entirely different challenge Mei will later have to go through independently from the panda.
While the panda clearly also has some metaphors for puberty (body hair, feeling ashamed for your body changes, I see it more as a metaphor for individuality and differences from your parents, and developing your own independent personality. At the same time its also a metaphor for suppressed emotions. It can be a metaphor for so many different things.

I kept getting these short video about ppl so not happy with Disney. I grew up watching Disney so was wondering wat really happened. thank you mojo for giving us the gist of it. After watching the entire video, i get it that there are certain terms and scenes tat r used which Disney tends to avoid. I cannot blame Disney entirely for these conspicuous scenes and dialogues. I feel tat today's generation grew up way faster than we millenials did. so i think they just made this movie relating to this generation but they could have stuck with the 90's period. Cos none of the kids in the 90's twirked or slapped their bottom in front of their parents

I think even little kids can understand the need to rebel, even if they don't know those words. Parents don't often realize, but children are always challenging them as soon as they can walk and talk. Children are ready to touch things their parents tell them not to, refuse vegetables, and/or refuse to go to bed. It's just cuter. As they get older, they might challenge their parents on things their parents weren't as prepared for, and that's what makes the teen years so tumultuous. But all kids rebel at any age.

If we take red panda as a menstruation period. As a woman I can easily releate to it. In the start you feel embarrassment and don't feel comfortable and ready to accept changes. Also you get angered and annoyed in early days or beginning of periods. But you can accept changes and feel comfortable with it as the time passes and you can control your mood swings and emotions as mei mei does control his red bear after getting some time.

Since they have made a movie about a girl coming of age and once again a girl has a crush on a male he is automatically labeled a pervert they need to make a movie about a boy coming of age and dealing with all of his changes becoming a man and the expectations and responsibilities that come with it then have a female crush of his labeled as a pervert.

This movie has one of the most powerful themes I have seen in a film for a long time. Most films and society teach us to devalue ourselves and idolize others. Turning Red is very subversive toward the common socialization tactic of teaching conformists to hate themselves. Thats why the world is such a rotten place.

Gyrating was a word used by parents in the 1950s when they thought of Elvis Presley. It actually was to move your pelvic area in any fashion. In this movie, the mom probably heard it from her own mother and associated it with twerking or juking as we called it in Chicago.

I was confused at why Meis mom said it was too early for her to get her period. The girl was 13! Lots of girls have their periods by then. Not to mention the red panda thing. The mom should have warned and prepared her about that way before!

I watched this with my 12 year old and we loved it. We especially cracked up with tears when Mei was gyrating at her Mom. The only question my daughter asked was if this was really how it was growing up in the early 2000s.

Drawings and embarrassing stuff until now this sorta happens between me and my Mom. it's pretty hard to keep stuff secret at most. it's hard to get normal when you have a Mom a lot like Mei's mom.

Quite a few Disney movies have manipulation, usurping power, and (at least attempted) murder, and I wouldnt say theyre not kid-friendly. The Lion King comes to mind.

backstabbing and murder don't translate to kid friendly material um. Anyone heard of the Lion King? It's a kid's favorite classic despite the mufasa death scene.

It's definitely not just adults that noticed these things. The movie is about teenage girls, so I'm pretty sure they would notice these things, too.

In fact, the title of the movie is not a subtle reference - the director Domee Shi herself said that it's a metaphor for menstuation.
