Salem was absolutely SAVAGE on Sabrina the Teenage Witch. For this list, well be looking at the cattiest things the Spellmans house pet ever said on this magical teen sitcom. Our countdown includes when he shaded all dog-kind, when he put the fear in furniture, when sharing wasn't always caring, and more! What do YOU think is Salem's most savage moment?

So, for those of you complaining about the reboot 'ruining' Salem, here's a little history. Salem was in the original comics in 1962 an ORANGE, non-speaking cat familiar. His character underwent a transformation once the 1990's sitcom, based on those original 60's comics was successful, to bring Salem to be more like his TV counterpart. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is another universe entirely. Salem is not a witch in this one, but a magic familiar, and doesn't have a speaking role until the episode in the final season lampshading the sitcom. Ambrose Spellman has existed in the comics since the 60's as well, originally a middle aged, somewhat portly white warlock. In Chilling Adventures, like Salem, he was given a makeover to fit that universe, and was changed in both appearance and backstory, adapting to partly what was given to Salem the Cat in the 90's sitcom. I don't expect anyone to automatically like the Chilling Adventures series, but it really isn't a 'reboot' and is based on a far far darker version of Sabrina from a comic book series of the same name.

Every Salem moment was glorious, savage, meow-valas and purrfectly timed! My favourite though is not when he's being um catty, but when there's an election on and he wants to get Friday changed to Frid-ya! It's so darn funny the way he says it.
Seriously there's nothing on TV half as funny, well scripted and perfectly cast than Sabrina, they should totally do a reboot with Sabrina married to Harvey and Salem has magic kittens! I liked Hilda and Salem best BTW.

I have a niece who grew up with the animated variation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
But I always complained about Salem in that series,
so when I came across YT videos like this one with the 90s series Salem,
it didn't take long for her to watch the series, for Salem, and change her mind about which series was the best, all for a cat.

It was pretty evident Salem and the aunties absolutely CARRIED the show on their backs. Not only people love most of their moments and lines, but also when you look at the audience for each season, the last 2 Seasons that had the least of Salem and the aunts had the absolutely ABYSMAL drop in audience.

I already saw somone comment one of my favs. Very good Sabrina, now what color is the table cloth. But some of my favs were: Bummer T Jones the third, I am latch key kitty cries' and Careful umph close. Not the most savage but quotes that I will always get stuck in my head from watching this show.

I don't remember what episode this was in, but there was a scene where Salem is stirring a cauldron and laughing maniacally. every time I see it I'm just about in the floor laughing. Salem was hand down the best part of that fun show.

One of the main reasons I couldn't get into the Netflix series was the lack of Salem. Whose idea was it to get a actress that's allergic to cats. It's not like Sally Draper is so great in the role.

Straight up back in the day, the only reason I watch STW was for Salem, if he wasn't in the show, I wouldn't even bother.
Like most people in the 90's and early 2000's, I named my cat Salem

I'm christian. We were taught not to judge others. But only judge yourself first. And the Buddhists said it's not about money. Or material things. So did Bob Marley. Black lives matter

Salam is so funny, and hes definitely a sassy character, almost everything he says makes me laugh and smile. Hes a memorable character. He kind of reminds me of JJ from outer banks.

Tried watching the reboot. Turned it off when it became clear there wasn't going to be a wise cracking talking cat. Salem was the reason I watched this show.
reply

Salem was the definitely best cat and the master of savagery and the heart and soul of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The show will not be the same without him.
reply

I can remember watching this show as a kid. And only now am I painfully aware how obviously not a real cat Salem was. Wow is that a mediocre puppet or what?
reply

I have not seen this full series in years, but I have watched ones from the final season, and find them fun. One particular one is my favourite.
reply

I always loved it when Salem would make a fool of himself and and follow it up with authentic sobbing ps always wanted to pet the talking Salem puppet
reply

the spelman house yould be a lot less dinamic without salem and yet in the reboot they took salem away and brought him back as a mute slenderman
reply

fun fact, Salems puppet here is recycled and is the same black cat puppet that was used for Binx in Hocus Pocus a few years prior to Sabrina
reply

My favorite Salem moment was when he took over Grady's body and tried to use Mr. Kraft as a puppet candidate for public office.

He's absolutely savage when he bets the family, loses them and then doesn't even attempt to rescue them until he runs out of food!
reply

I also really loved the Salem and Hilda dynamic and how they were frequent foils for each other. Always getting in the schemes lol
reply

Colonel Gentleman: Now I want you to pause everytime Salem is on screen and note whether it's a real cat or that crappy puppet!
reply

Another funny Salem moment I remember was when he grew too much fur and begged Groom me, please. Groom me.

The more comedic character named Salem I know
The other Salem I know is the Psychotic lady from RWBY
