OK, maybe one day I'll get around to watching the HSM series, but the original movie(s) were a catalyst for Disney and marked a whole new era for DCOMs and Disney musicals. Did it REALLY need something to introduce the new generation to the original movies? No, Disney just wanted to recreate it in an attempt to profit all over again from the original success.
And I don't care, I am still 100% a proud Gleek, probably more so now as an adult than when it originally aired. I originally couldn't watch past season 3, and definitely didn't want to when I heard the news about Cory's passing. Rewatching it 2 years ago and making it all the way through was almost like therapy. Really? Quinn screaming during Bohemian Rhapsody while giving birth is counting as a tone deaf moment?

Clicked with the thought If CXG isn't on the list. and yes, it's right where it needs to be! That show made the world better for so many of us. Hell, I shared it with my therapist! It is impossible to overstate how important it was to hear. because you just had an abortion! or a diagnosis! or I didn't want to die, I just wanted the pain to stop on my television. Plus I've never seen a musical use the genres of the musical numbers as effectively as CXG did, actually adding to the songs' meanings. It's perfection, and yeah, I'm due for a rewatch, because life doesn't make narrative sense.

Empire should've officially made the list.
And also Star should be on the list or at least a mention. It was another show on FOX made by Lee Daniels starring Queen Latifah and Ryan Destiny. It later had a crossover with Empire. Plus the show is better than Empire in my opinion because it written more like a teen drama vs Empire's soap opera drama. And it has WAY better songs that I still listen to today.

Julie and The Phantoms! My heart belongs to that show. The cast is so unbelievably talented its mesmerizing. Ive seen the show countless times and it never fails to bring me to tears with its beautiful songs and inspirational story. The show has it all and it deserves everything and more. Im so angry it was canceled and Im really hoping Netflix brings it back IMMEDIATELY. It deserves nothing but love.

Boo. Is this what musicals are like now? I am reminded why I left musical theater behind long ago. Empire was artistically miles above these not funny comedies, wildly annoying intonation and abominations of dance.
It did have African American stars and flavor, so being the most talented gets an honorable mention. The kind of musicals in the top five, here, are unwatchable. But there we are.

So glad that Smash! got a shout-out. The stories were kind of iffy, but the actors were amazing and the songs were the best. My first exposure to original songs via TV and I still listen to them with love. Totally support the 1 and 2 spots-- great shows. Did not realize how consistently musical tv shows only last 2 seasons.

I would put Glee at the top, followed by HSM: TM: TS, Julie and the Phantoms, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, Katy Keene and Schmigadoon.
Though HSM: TM: TS, Julie and the Phantoms and Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist are pretty much equal to me.
I haven't seen any of the other shows [yet], so It can't rank them.

Julie and the Phantoms great show! Such a talented cast. Singing, playing own instruments, writing one of the songs and acting. They can do it all and do it very well. It was up for many awards including many Emmys. Would love to see it continue.

Recently binge watched Schmigadoon and it was AMAZING cant wait for the second season. but also this really needs to be saidJUSTICE FOR STAR! It was such an AMAZING show and it still hurts that it got canceled

I loved Crazy Ex Girlfriend, I'm glad they got to finish the story. I loved Galavant, but I was shocked it got a second season. It's a really good show, but I've never heard of anyone I knew watching it.

I want to see Galavant so much. I managed to find the soundtrack and it's great but I can't find it to see anywhere. It's doubly unfair because it seems like most of the cast are English.

How is Glee NOT #1. It was a cultural phenomenon and it paved the way for a lot of these shows since 2009 and showed that musical comedies can perform well on television.

Glee is the best musical tv show and will forever be one of my favorite shows. I love Julie and the Phantoms and hate that they canceled it on a cliffhanger.
