Its a tv show. The queens know exactly what they sign up for every season (at least they should as its written in their contract that they sign to be booked. If they dont read it (or their lawyers or managers or whoever takes care of their contract negotiations for them in some cases) then theyre not very smart. Rupaul is in his mid-late 60s and has had MILLIONS of queens send in audition tapes and things from around the world. Even her winners she has so many of now that how can you keep any of their names correct? They film so quickly and then poof its onto another batch of girls for Ru for another tv show or another series shes filming. Its a reality tv show at the end of the day. Production teams are not there to be your friends, they are there to produce the show and make the money. You are there for a job and have to act accordingly. Like you have to follow the rules of any other workplace. Is it harsh? Hell yeah. But that creates more entertainment for the viewers at home paying the money, so theyre naturally going to do that. Its the entertainment business for a reason. Its a business. Run by corporate greed. Just like any other business out there these days. All about the money. Whatever gets them more money is whatever theyre gonna do. No matter how crazy or dangerous it is.

For all the super positive that Ru's show has done, and it's a lot - it can't be ignored how they edit things to make contestants saying one thing about a topic, look as if they're talking about another thing, and that they're wearing the same outfit in the confessional, so they can use it whenever they want. Also, the shadiest thing ever was Ru herself asking Max to sing something to catch her breath, then the producers twisting it to look like Max was kooky and a self-centered weirdo. That's soooo inappropriate. Then add in Ru not picking the amazing (yet obese) Ginger Minj when she was the obvious star of Season 6 & All-Stars Season 6. Ru told contestants they need to accept that they'll be made fun of for their weight, but she got mad when queens mocked Drag U in a skit, according to the wonderful Mrs Kasha Davis.

The show was transphobic, and not because of the shemale opening.
In those early seasons I remember some queens commenting on others they suspected were transitioning. Like if they were it would have been against the shows premise to strictly be men dressed in drag.
That clearly changed over the seasons where not only trans women are welcomed, but trans men or even men claiming to be straight.
Also, it was very obvious the episodes were filmed back to back and not week to week like they air.

I met Willam during Baltimore Pride weekend. Super sweet and someone in the audiance asked a the question if Willam ever considered Ru Paul All star's. Willam responded with a decline, but if you listen to the interview snippet on here, some grounds added up. I'm very happy for Willam, who was the star of that season. Also, an amazing performer and even hanged with the crowd at the back padio of the Baltimore Eagle (was a first for a ru paul star.

A lot of these are a reach. Lets not forget these are all adults who know what they are signing up for, especially at this point, this far into the franchise. Not saying the production is flawless and non-toxic, butit takes two to tango. Its reality TV, a lot of this goes without saying. I think the queens know they are not all going to sit in a circle with the producers etc. and sing kumbaya.

I dont really see issues through these multiples points you pulled up. Like
Its a competition/ hot topic TV really show.
Actually, they signed up for that every those times.
Shade is part of the drag culture since forever. And the girls dont need the production to go messy.
The production is just saving those corny moments for the viewers.
And yessss they

In truth, you've got shemail! was meant to be a play on you've got Email! (just different enough from America Online's iconic You've got MAIL soundbite so they couldn't sue) but yes when said out loud, shemail is a homonym for the trans slur and it cost nothing to leave it behind. She Already Done Had Her's is much better anyway.

Interesting how the secrets of some of the most popular reality shows are similar. The Drag Race secrets sound incredibly like the secrets of America's Next Top Model. The isolation, low-budget food, long filming days and the general disrespect and cruelty of the crew and/or judges to the contestants.

Drag race became from a show that celebrates drag to a show that gatekeeps what drag and what good drag is. Non DR girls are expected to wear expensive drag otherwise they are seen as less than and even if they do, if they don't go on the show they don't get equal opportunities for gigs and fame

Its a tv show. Regardless of how you feel about the show or the contestants its a tv show. They are making a tv show. The queens know this, they sign up for it. They know what it is and they know how it will boom their careers. Is it right? No. Is it reality tv? Yes.

I don't like the isolation and the way they're being treated. And ru not remembering names is not surprising. I have a hard time with names and I'm a dance teacher is very hard to remember all of my kids names unless I interact with them frequently.

Oh, also, let's not forget that SOME producers raped contestants (like Willam and Pearl were. Yes, using your corporate status to coerce people working under you into sleeping with you is a crime in developed countries.

I always found Ru Paul's Drag Race very entertaining and very unique
Watching this video has turned me off to the show a bit.
$75. 00 for 12 people? Is this true? Talk about cruel and unusual.

They are also severly underpaid compared to the amount of money they spend to get on the show. A queen can spend up to 20, 000 dollars and go home first being only paid for the one episode they were on

This is a dumb title. Dark truths? Filming different endings to avoid spoilers and taking the phones away to avoid spoilers is dark? Facts you may not have known about RPDR would have made better sense

What I dont get is why queens get paid $200 per episode. Yet they spend so much money on prizes and RuPaul earns over 100K per episode. Least they can do is pay them $200 per day of filming.

Willam prefers to be referred to as he in and out of Drag. I love when people call him she because its exactly what he deserves for intentionally messing up the pronouns of fellow queens lol

I do not buy that the show filmed an entire season in four weeks. That sounds insane and cruel. Also Willam is very provocative, so I take whatever she says with a grain of salt.

It's a game show. Truth is, it has launched the careers of many and made the Art of Drag a global phenomenon. Sorry there are bitter queens out there who couldn't cut it.

It's a power play. Ru is smart and he will not allow a queen outshine him. This was a subtle jab to remind Jinkx that she isn't the ultimate drag queen. The SHADE.
