I don't get what's so weird about Mario being next to the realistic humans. Like, I understand they are different designs for the same species, but it's not disturbing in any way to me. I have a feeling I'm going to be playing in New Donk City a lot. I hope Pauline shows up as well. I was hoping the next step for Mario would be a Kingdom-Hearts-esque game where he visits all the locales he's been to before, like Sarasaland, Isle Delfino, and the Bean Bean Kingdom, with the final level being New York City as a -return home- kind of thing, so it looks like this something close to that in a way.

Crazy theory/prediction time:
What if the reason there's realistic people in the city is because it's meant to be our -real world-, and in said real world the Mario games actually exist, so Mario and co. end up in this real world (like the CGI/live-action Smurfs and Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, except good) as the main hub
And in order to go to the different levels you have to find a video game store in the city which -sells- a specific game representing each level (like jumping through a painting in Mario 64)

you know something? If you look at all the supposedly -regular- humans walking around New Donk City, they're all wearing the same thing: gray suits. I don't think they're regular humans. Something's going on here.
Wild speculation:
Bowser or someone else (possibly donkey kong) has turned the entire mushroom kingdom into a normal, real city. Those supposedly normal people are actually transmogrified toads.

Great to see some positivity around so far everyone even websites complaining about how the switch is doomed. I can't wait for this game it looks amazing the colours, animation and art style. Can't till March 3rd Switch day so looking forward to it Zelda will feel fresh playing it on the switch.

One thing to mention -
New Donk City is inspired by New York because that is where Mario originated from. In the original Mario Bros, his objective was to 'clean' the sewers that were overridden with turtles. This likely explains why he first emerges from a grid in this world/trailer.

My theory is that crazy caps is somehow going to be owned by bowser and I think that in the climax of the story it's revealed that these caps were made to brainwash people so bowser can easily take over the various worlds, hence why so many people and creatures are wearing hats.

1. This feels like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure to me for some inexplicable reason
2. So, the whole wedding thing is definitely like a reference to Homer's Odyssey, right? I really wouldn't be surprised if there were more parallels in the actual game.

Two things I noticed:
- The scene with the -bunny koopalings- on a ship is taking place inside a massive glass dome. You can see it if you look closely at the background.
- There's some kind of tentacle in the scene of Mario walking between two trees.

I hope the city isn't the hub world, but I have a feeling it is. It feels weird to see Mario in -the real world-. Other than that this is a day 1 buy for me. It's all about the gameplay and it looks as good as any of the other 3D Marios.

The repeating billboards and clearly defined level limits with lower-quality LOD geometry placed next to it reminds me so much of the Dreamcast it hurts. It's hideous, but with a confidence that makes me super excited to play it.

Espresso isn't an enemy, but actually one of the Animal Buddies (an Ostrich) from the DKC series on the SNES. Still, great video and I can't wait to get Super Mario Odyssey when it comes out.

Combination of 64 and sunshine's open world styles. Wouldn't necessarily compare it to 3D world or land cuz those two were a step down from the open world games. In playing styles as well.
