Discover the incredible history of Beanie Babies, in this special, YouTube edition of The History of Fun podcast I-m getting 2 extremely rare MWMT MQ Pre 1st UK Beanie Babies on June 5th, 2021 (my 31st birthday, a Pre 1st UK Legs the frog and a Pre 1st UK Raspberry Patti the platypus. Patti was authenticated by Becky Estenssoro of True Blue Beans (she comes with a letter from Ms. Estenssoro explaining her rarity) and Legs hasn-t been professionally authenticated at all. For Christmas in 2020, I-m getting a MWMT MQ Brownie the bear with 4-line Korean tush tag authenticated by Peggy Gallagher and a MWMT MQ Pre 1st UK Cubbie that hasn-t been authenticated. One of my favorite Beanie Babies is that 1st generation MWMT MQ Canadian Blackie the bear that I got for Christmas in 2019, when I also got 1st generation MWMT MQ Seamore the seal. Before that, I got a MWCT 1st generation Legs with 5-line Korean tush Tag, and after that, during Christmas Day, since I had some money from labor and I won $100 on a $25 scratch ticket from the NH Lottery because I was visiting someone in NH, I made an offer on a MWCT 1st generation 7-spot Lucky the ladybug. All prices and values are confidential, so don-t even dare to ask! My 1st generation MWMT MQ Canadian Blackie is one of my favorites because he reminds me of Baloo from The Jungle Book (1967, my favorite animated Disney film. Other notable Beanies that are in my collection are 1st generation Mystic the fine mane unicorn, 1st generation Quackers the wingless duck (I have 3 wingless Quackers Beanie Babies with 1st generation swing tags) and 3rd generation Velvet the panther with German tags. I think I-ll really enjoy my Pre 1st UK Cubbie because he reminds me of Little John (a bear from the Disney animated film Robin Hood (1973) that looks and sounds like The Jungle Book character Baloo, except for being brown instead of gray, lacking claws on his fingers/paws and Little John wears clothes. Brownie isn-t too bad because he is also extremely rare and he sometimes reminds me of Kenai from the 2003 animated film, Brother Bear (in his bear form, and sometimes he reminds me of Barney Bear, a cartoon character from 26 MGM animated shorts from 1939 to 1954. Brownie can also remind me of Fozzie Bear from the Muppets (because Legs reminds me of Kermit the Frog) or the ursine mascot of BEHR paint company. I-ll also enjoy Legs because he reminds me of Kermit the Frog, whereas Raspberry Patti reminds me of Veronica, a platypus doll inspired by Barbie owned by Edward the platypus from Camp Lazlo (because Edward and Veronica are both platypuses and Barbie is a human-shaped doll that are played with by human beings, especially young girls, even though Edward, the youngest Bean Scout (Boy Scout/male camper) from Camp Lazlo is a male platypus.\r\n

My only experience with Beanie Babies was like when I was a kid my cousin came over with a few of them and told us that we gotta hold onto them because they were gonna be worth a lot of money some day and this was right in the middle of the huge craze for them and I just remember clearly thinking like -Wait why would anyone buy this? - and then we put it away in the same cabinet with our fancy dinnerware set.
Unfortunately we never actually bothered to do anything with it and only remembered we even had them like years and years later long after the craze died down.

Nice to hear a somewhat accurate account of the Ty story for once! There's no valuable version of Claude the crab, though - there's been a rumour circulating for years that he's rare but they literally sold millions of them! Spelling mistakes on tags don't actually add value as they sold hundreds of thousands of them before correcting the mistakes - but people still seem to think they have the only one with spelling mistakes!

Listening to this I-m trying to remember some of the ones I had as a kid (they were mostly my sisters actually lol) I still have a pair that I really like, they-re the normal July/Ruby Birthday Bear and the mini version of it from McDonald-s. I think my sister had the same thing but for June instead. Anyway, very interesting to listen to.

I collect Patti the Platypuses (I have 20+ but I've bought them all for prices between $0. 50 to $2. 00) and I once helped at Etsy lister figure out if her -rare- light pink Patti was real or a counterfeit -- it was a fake! She wanted $200 for it either way.

Anyone remember Meanies they were like a bootleg version of beanie babies based on pop culture from the 90s. The dopeymon is my favorite next ti FiDo and Sia and Mia the conjoined cat and dog plushies.

Beanie babies were never a big thing where I come from, but I've always found the nostalgia around them fascinating. I've learned so much today and listening to Allegra is always lovely -

The most valuable version of Princess (PVC pellets, made in Indonesia) will get you around $50 - $60 on a good day - but gullible people still list them for thousands, haha.

I've been following Polygon for about two years now, and this is the first video I've seen Allegra Frank on the videos. Good to put a face to all those articles!

Was there a beanie baby anniversary or something? I haven't thought of these in years and suddenly I can't stop being educated about their history/shame. >_

I used to get these at a local toy store that had a coffee shop next door. And those beanie babies always smelled so good. Coffee beanie babies.

Absolutely NO ONE can get Punchers the lobster for only $20. 00! The book value is approximately $3, 000. 00 for a mint example!

I only ever owned one Beanie Baby and it was Pinkie the unicorn. I think I still have it in my closet somewhere.
