If Digimon is more popular than Pokemon, the WonderSwan beats out the Game Boy, Mother 3 gets an American release but Animal Crossing doesn't, and nobody cares about Pikachu. With only a few small changes to our

Who said Digimon DIDN'T win? Pok'emon I lost interest in the Anime after the first season. Ash being an unchanging idiot who never grows as a character and being the main focus of the Anime in EVERY FREAKING SERIES. it's hard to keep up with that for more than one series. Digimon however even if you don't like a central character in a series, there will be a brand new cast of characters to follow in the next series. I still watch the Digimon anime as an adult.
As far as the games story line goes, Pok'emon is always the same thing, over and over again. fight 8 gym leaders, battle an evil organization, defeat the elite 4, and some sort of post game where you catch all the Legendary Pok'emon of that game. Digimon. again, you have a more complex story that always changes with every season. There's no repetitive formula. Even the games themselves are largely different, though they seldom release at least you get something different and more interesting than just a reskin of the same game over and over again.
The designs. while Pok'emon designs have gotten more lazy often making worse versions of Pok'emon who already existed in later generations. Digimon on the other hand continuously improves their designs and even when they do revisit old designs and redo them they usually turn out BETTER than the original version.
I'd say we're already living in the universe where Digimon won or at least where the two franchises are still in competition with each other and neither has really won yet.

It could have won if you could catch digimon in my opinion they look better than pokemon but you can't catch them you're stuck with just the one you got which gets boring. It has what a few Digivoles then that's it. People like collecting things and fighting especially boys digimon is really just fighting and a bit of exploration. And then there's the face of their franchise Pikachu is cute but cool enough to grab the attention of many varieties of kids. Augumon is just an orange dinosaur.

I can't get over how digimon is not only not a copy of pokemon, but was not even inspired by it, the digimon anime actually came first and was based of a game that despite being released at the same time as pokemon, had nothing to do with it: Tamagotchi!
Like, these eerily similar things were being created in parallel, they werent even aware they were competing for legitimacy with each other, imagine how frustrating must it be for the digimon creators.

Digimon was actually called Digimon before Pocket Monsters was changed to Pokemon for the west. Pokemon copied the name. Pokemon created the hate for Digimon because of this, despite Digimon being out in America the year before with the V-Pets. There was also a Japan-only manga called C'mon Digimon before Pocket Monsters became Pokemon.

Can you please do an Alternate History of if we loved Venus De Milo from Ninja Turtles: Next Mutation? Or rather, what if if we liked that show in the first place. I-m of the minority where I loved that show and that character so it would be a cool childhood nostalgia what if for me. Thank you!

Technically, you can kill Pokemon before it's even out in Japan. At the last minute end of development for Red & Green, Game Freak took a risk and after removing the debugging tools, they filled the remaming cartridge space with the code for Mew. Now what if that broke the game?

Nothing big would change, furrys wouldn't be more excepted all that would happen is digimon is seen more instead and digimon would get lazy because they have no competition its what happens to everything when they win, and tai would stay tai and it would still be based in Japan

You're missing one of the most important possibilities of early Bandai success with stateside anime:
We might have been introduced to a good Gundam series first instead of Wing, and people who don't watch it would no longer call them -Transformers. -

As a person who enjoy both Pokemon and Digimon during my childhood, it's very interesting to know how big of an impact it would be on the world and the world's popculture if Pokemon were to lose to Digimon when it comes to popularity.

I love this, but thanks for assuming every furry wants or has a fursuit. I'm a furry, but damn, those are endlessly cringe. I'm jealous of the kind of income those people have, though. Also, props to whoever makes the suits.

I find the Americanisation of digimon conflicts with the more mature tone surely they would cut that out if they were to Americanise it. I-d say what if Yugioh won how it changes card games to be the most popular choice for kids.

And to think a large reason Pokemon popped off in Japan was because of the rumors that a super 151'th pokemon existed, which snowballed exponentially.
Damn, 1 of my 2 favorites hard carrying Their specific verse lmao.

Out of curiously, What would Pokemon Journeys the Series and Pokemon Horizons the Series be like in this timeline alongside Digimon Adventure 2020 and Digimon Ghost Game? I wonder what it turns out.

Sailor moon and DBZ Don-t air in the us? What! Sailor Moon aired stateside in 1995, and dbz in 1996 (dbz on UPN, the station that later merged with WB to make the CW, is still a very weird memory)

Digimon relied too heavily on one series anime. You can get instant popularity from but can't create a big franchise out of it. There need to be a solid base like video game or manga.

So in theory. If digimon won would sonic be more well like for it's deep but cheese stories, like sonic adventure 2, shadow the hedgehog and possibly sonic 06 being an actual good game? -

Me: oh I love alternate history stuff this should be fun.
Me 12 minutes into the video: -EXISTENTIAL DREAD ABOUT HOW THE ONLY CONSTANT IS THAT CAPITALISM WILL RUIN EVERYTHING-

Ice Age probably would have won since it was the most commercially successful and the most like Shrek. But in this timeline I like to imagine Treasure Planet winning instead.
reply

I am going to note even furries reject -Cats- for it's garbage fire effects and a story that completely undermined the story and characterization in the Broadway version.
reply

Honestly augumatlanta would work too
It kinda makes sense with it In OTL being a silicon valley of the south in its own right but maybe that's my bias talking

reply

no animal crossing, hot topic fursuits, getting bullied for the wrong lunchbox and primarily no pokemon. the true bad ending. id rather not live in a digistopia
reply

The one thing about this that I think would be 100% undeniable is that furry culture would have been way more manly-furry centric in this timeline
reply

10: 13 so they post about furries doing the do while being depressed and edgy and saying these fan made sonic characters parents are divorced

But that would mean that Mamoru Hosoda would be too busy directing Digimon films to found Studio Chizu. and then we wouldn't have ''Wolf Children-. -

dying at the idea that in the Digiverse Eddie Redmayne transitioned pre-2009 and starred in CATS as Eddi Redmayne. idc if it's a typo good for her

As a pokemon fan and a digimon fan I can't tell if I would want this timeline or don't the existing of digimon and pokemon fan is hard
reply

What's wild to me is digimon being seen as a pokemon clone when it would be a lot more accurate to call it a tamagotchi clone
reply

1: 44 ok but I would watch the heck out of a -Jenna and Pat-s video game gender studies- series. Just throwing the idea out there
