At the time you could hear a gradual shift towards the British music becoming the norm instead of the exception, even with American bands like The Knack taking on a British sound, two years later with the popularity of Mtv it was solidified. What we lost in the process was disco and yacht rock. In all my years I never heard such a dramatic shift in popular music tastes. but the emergence of grunge in the early 90's comes close. One day Poison is on top, then here comes Nirvana. Okay, maybe the early 90's is tied.

Music without gimmicks. Musicians simply sang rather than relying on goofy costumes, make up or nudity.
Well, except for Devo.
AC/DC had a good year. They look like such regular dudes. Like your local car mechanic.

Meanwhile, in the UK, we also had Lip Up Fatty, Special Brew, Tom Hark, Too Much Too Young and so on. Quite a year although pretty strange at the top of the charts.

I was around nine years old when all of this fantastic music was played for the first time on the radio, on LP albums, 8 tracks and on cassette tapes.

Honestly! Just cut Blondie from these lineups and stick their names at the end if there are such huffy issues with playing anything by them!

My favourite year of music, I was 20, bringing back so many great memories. Still love listening to the music 43 years later.

I’m familiar with 120 of these Hit Songs. The other 30 were probably more popular in the UK. But not here in the USA.

If I had to pick an overall favorite year it would probably be 1980. Music was unparalleled between 19781981.

0: 50, Pink Floyd was spot on: We don't need no education. They knew government education is mind control.
