Relationships in Disney princess movies have certainly come a long way since the days of just waiting for a prince to arrive. Watch and discover more about the amazing evolution of Disneys most romantic couples. When you look into the main relationships in Disney princess movies, you see the amazing evolution of Disneys most romantic couples. The change is fascinating. It starts off with the classic era of the 1930s to 1950s, when a princess falls in love at first sight and then waits for her prince to save her. Then it undergoes a transformation with the more independent princesses of the renaissance era in the 1990s. And then in the most recent movies, men and women work together as equals. Watch our video to learn the important details of each couples unique relationship, from how they met to the challenges they faced and how their romance blossomed. Snow White and Auroras love stories have so many similarities. Watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Sleeping Beauty, you could easily think youre seeing the same relationship play out. They both fell in love instantly, and then didnt see their princes again until their men saved them from death with true loves kiss. It was always a villainous woman standing in their way. After a break of 30 years, the next era of Disney princesses were more independent. But their love stories were still the focus of their lives. Through the 1990s audiences were shown a different kind of love story. These couples had to deal with more than just a jealous female villain. Ariel and Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid and Belle and Beast in Beauty and the Beast each had species differences to overcome. Jasmine and Aladdin were up against class prejudice. Pocahontas and John Smith had to contend with cultural differences. And Shang spent the majority of Mulan thinking he was forging a friendship with a man rather than the woman he would eventually fall in love with. These movies showed couples overcoming obstacles created by society rather than an individual. After a break of more than 10 years, the new wave of movies brought in couples that certainly didnt fall in love at first sight. And the women in these movies werent just passively waiting for a man to save them. Tiana and Naveen in The Princess and the Frog, Rapunzel and Flynn in Tangled and Anna and Kristoff in Frozen each worked together as a team to defeat the obstacles that stood in the way of their path to true love. i think we don't talk about the guys in these films a lot. it's a valid point to make about how women in the early days of disney are very submissive and traditional, but it's worth mentioning how they're still the protagonist (rare for that period) and the male characters barely say a word. aladdin is the first time we see a break from the norm, and even then his own problems (poverty) are breezed over. the men in these disney films follow the social expectations of men, as brave and tough, and all fit the body expectations that society holds. idk, i just feel like it's something we ought to talk about.

I love Flynn and Rapunzel. They were always much more serious than all the other disney movies. I think it has to do with the fact that he's older than her because I myself end up in those kind of relationships, and also that it is much more realistic. Betrayal, love, just the scenes of the movie are just so much more mature kinda

Why are Ariel and Eric always praised for their love story? Ok sure Ariel is more independent, but her entire motivation is so there's this hot guy I wanna go to land to be with this hot guy. And he's just like she's hot and she's a good singer. lemme put a ring on it.

Why does this sound so much like The Talko?
The disney couples have evolved a lot, probably on the stereotypes of today. Obviously you would put two people with royal status in the 1950's. Besides, some of it was based of stories and tales.

in real life Pocahontas and John Smith were not lovers. She was between the ages of 11-14. She did in fact save his life and her accepted John as his son. So Pocahontas and John Smith were brother and sister.

Is it bad that I hate how prince adam looks like as a human and I prefer him as a beast? Just me well uhm. but the beast is FLOOFY

The beast in beauty and the beast never actually was given a name. Beast was only given a name in Disneys descendence
