To be fair, not only was she pretty much being manipulated into upholding her family honour by her grandmother, but, because of Mal, she lost Ben, pretty much all the people she considered friends, and any possibility of her becoming queen. In Descendants 3, when Ben proposes to Mal, you see Audrey and her grandmother and her grandmother is scolding her for not upholding the family honour and becoming queen as if the entire situation is her fault. She was robbed of her happy ending and anything she may have wanted for herself from the beginning. At the beginning of Queen of Mean, you can see a photo of her and Ben as kids, so this wasnt a recent thing. Be with Ben and eventually become queen of Auredon was basically drilled into her growing up. No one is born good or evil, its how they are raised and the environment they grow up in.
