The most logical reason that without Good, evil would -balance itself out- is either that if there was no good to oppose the evil, there would be nothing to FUEL the evil.
Or the fact that because Bruce died Joker never really had a real reason to go FULLY insane, and kept a relatively large amount of his sanity intact as he had time to calm himself down.

Yeah the thing is that how do I explain this it's been several times that without Batman Joker cannot properly function and either he regresses becoming simply a shadow inside the mind of the man that takes over as seen in going sane he shuts down as in Batman The Dark Knight Returns or as in distant fires he becomes good

How are R. I. P. and Dark Knights Metal considered alternate versions of the Joker? It-s the Joker from the main universe, and nothing is different about him on these occasions as he-s still his evil old self.
Also, the censoring of -Nazis-, -Holocaust- and -pills- were really unnecessarily distracting.
