One episode was all it took! Join Ashley as we look over the anime that made us weep with their pilot episode, as seen in series such as Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Oshi no Ko, Chainsaw Man, and more! Which anime you a crying mess Pluto. The first episode is practically a short film. A bitter old man who is prejudice against the robots he lives with, who lost his love for writing music. Over the course of the episode the robot learns to be more than just a tool for killing through music, the old man learns to care for the robot while also rediscovering love for music and the truth about his mother whom he despised. The ending of that episode absolutely broke me.

When I first heard about Violet Evergarden, I was told multiple to not binge it because I will get dehydrated from how much I cry. So one summer, I tuned into Netflix and, of the 13 episodes, I watched roughly two-to-three a day and felt the heartbreak every time (especially episode 10. Then, when it came to the specials and the movies, it was the epitome of bittersweet. Seriously, Kyoto Animations did amazing with that series. They know how to tug on your heart strings, but I still think its crazy they made Violet and Miss Kobayashi.

I haven’t followed up with the latest animes since 5 yrs ago. Only whatever is on Netflix or other streaming services I’m on.
Glad to see one of them I’ve watched is on the list. Violet Evergarden.
Before this, my fav emotional anime is Kanon. Watched during my days at University. One time I fell asleep with the show playing beside me. I woke up trying to breathe.
I’m not fluent in Japanese and relied on the subtitles. But just listening to it even while sleeping can make an impact

I know the initial premise will rub people the wrong way, but Higehiro: After Being Rejected I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway, is definitely a series that hit me in the feels after its first episode. The male lead is all at once incredibly mature and incredibly compassionate. He sees this teenage runaway not as a problem or someone to take advantage of but as a person who needs help and someone to treat her with a kindness it's obvious she's never known.

Ooof Cross Games. The original creator is well known for killing off some pretty big characters in his series. And Cross Games may have been one of his best/cruelest. They spends an entire volume building up Ko and Wakaba’s relationship only to kill her off. The anime does it in an oh so sudden and tragic moment in episode 1. Still one of my favorite series in anime and manga and probably one of Adachi’s best modern works.

When will Frieren finish this season I watched it for a couple months but decided to take some time off from Crunchyroll. To save money, I have started rotating through streaming services and plan to get back to Crunchyroll before terribly long, but I want to make certain that I will be able to finish this season of Frieren when I do. and Shangr-la Frontier, and Apothecary Diaries, and.
Thanks.

I didn’t think Your Lie in April would be here. I was so surprised when it popped up. By far my favorite anime. I’ve seen it three time now and cried each time. Next closest for me is Violet Evergarden.
Edit: Ok so I wrote my comment right after Your Lie in April popped up. I didn’t realize I had forecasted my second favorite anime. And apologies for the spoilers.

To quote a line from a true immortal on B5:
To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal. You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received.

I did'nt find cross Game not so much sad as emotionally manpiutlive. Honorable mentions should go to the final epsidoes of season two of Honey and Clover which had me think I'm getting emotional over a sandwech and the final episode of season one of Descending Stories which yelling out loud it's not fair dammit! It's not fair! and crying.

Okay, this isn't a first episode, but the first two episodes of HINAMATSURI are pure comedy, as a young telekinetic girl invades a yakuza's life. But then the third episode introduces a new character, and a new situation, and it's just a gut punch. I literally had tears running down my face, and did again when I thought of it the next day.

I found none of this even moving. Show me a story about a girl ready to sell her soul and who has to hold onto hope purely because if she doesn't everyone is doomed including the one she set out to save. All the while her quest feels more and more futile and hope becomes harder to hold onto.

I cried the first episode of death note. Just watching a fresh, young, innocent, brilliant young man like Light and the realization that after he was introduced to the death note that all of his innocence would be forfeit and his bright future forever out of reach now just broke me.

I still hold this thought. Out of all the animes that got screwed over in this years awards. It was Frieren, the anime is a masterclass in story telling, heart string pulling, action adventuring, world/character building, and loveable goofballs all rolled into one.

Lol what the heck is this list Your researcher forget something much worthy on frieren at top 1, did your researcher ever watched Kotaro lives alone that anime will not just definitely break you on one episode but full depression from episode 1 up to the last part.

I remember Yu Yu Hakusho gave me the very first cry on Episode 1. Where Yosuke saved a child and get hits by a vehicle and ended up dying, thinking no one will mourn for him and he accepts his death. Only to realized there are family and friends who did.
reply

The fact Frieren didn't cry because he passed on but because she felt guilt in not filling/leave a mark in Himmel's life completely broke me but it broke me even more because Himmel was happy with the time he spent with her.
reply

Frieren crying after Himmel died broke me. Despite everything, she really enjoyed her time with him and wish she had the chance to know him better. She still has fond memories of their travels but the pain still remains.

You really feel bad for Kousei in Your Lie in April. As soon as he starts appreciating piano and healing from his past trauma, well you know. Such a tragic story overall but also a beautiful one indeed.
