I recently saw what looked like a toddler braiding her younger niece's hair(including a heart braid and spirals around the head) and I'm just astounded by the creativity, talent, and ability to control hair to these degrees. In totally impressed by anyone who can do this.
I'm wondering about the mannequin and how close it is to real textured hair. It looks like they only changed the color of the mannequin's skin. I'd imagine that makes it harder to learn and practice with.
You qualified that you are a colorist. Do you have to adjust the process for textured hair? I'd be super interested in a video that delves into that.

I dont understand how these girls or guys do it. I figured maybe because a lot of them have tight curls maybe that creates friction so they can have grip to hold on to such little sections
But then you calculate the oil they put in the root of the hair
Making it slippery
Obviously they have practice
But I realized later
Its just magic.
Literally a hair braiding fairy goes around and does a spell on those who deserve the blessing
They wake up
And can braid with magic infused fingers

it took me about a month on a mannequin to not only fogure out how to cornrow but to get them relatively clean before i tried on a person. i was really slow at first, im still not very fast but with lots of practice, hand cramps, and frustrstion, i eventually got it figured out. still trying to get patterns down, but i can do the criss cross braids, they were easier than expected. i used alot of Glam Fam videos when i was learning. Linwood is awesome and videos are detailed and easy to follow.

It is so offensive to us as a people when you hate us, but turn around and steal our culture, emulate us in every way, and try to act, talk, and style like us. Please stop it! You can't do what we do because it's just not you. It's our heritage and culture. Stop stealing it so you cn capitalize on the things we cherish and hold near and dear. what identifies us as a people. This is called CULTURAL MISAPPROPRIATION! Stop using our collloquialisms as well, like shout out and old skool.

I enjoy watching him so much lol because I can't braid either. My grandmother and my aunt owned salons so I never did my own hair until I was like 16 and I had no idea what I was doing lol. I'm grown and married and I still just pop up at my moms house, my grandma's house and my mom's sister's house and be like soo what do you want to do to my hair this week I don't know what I'm going to do if I ever have a little girl and they're busy!

Im a black stylist and I love the fact that you acknowledge that braiding is a specialty that a lot of black stylist are known for when I got board with traditional black hair styling techniques I went into color and realized it to is very hard and challenging. You can get better at braids if you practice just like I got better with color as I practiced.

This is hilarious, im not an expert at braiding at all but a lot of this stuff is basic to me and so easy. Its so funny to watch it puzzle another person. im like dang zig zag is soooo basic, glad its amazing to others. You did really well in my opinion, practice does make perfect. For me, the smaller the braid the easier to do but harder to take out lol.

the funniest thing to me about braiding hair for me is that looking at it makes it near impossible to braid lol I have to look to see what I'm doing once in a while but the actual braid has to be eyes off or my fingers get lost

As someone who can only do Dutch braids well, and kind of French braid, I'm impressed xD imo you did well for a beginner, and I think it's great that you're willing to learn and showcase techniques from another culture

For a person who get there hair done and doesn't do it by themselves I have never seen someone do a zig zag braid, zig zag cross braid, and a heart cross cornrow so I would say you did well!
