Hairdresser reacts to people dying their locs and it going terribly wrong Kitsuyuutsu: I dont want to sound rude, but I never understood why African American women want to bleach their hair so blonde! Its way too stark for their skin tone. I think a nice honey blonde would be so much more becoming and look wonderful with their skin tone because its a warm hair color. I hope the first woman eventually grows to like her hair because, honestly, I really liked that lighter brown on her. It looked great with her skin tone and it really was a pretty color. The girl with the pink Honestly, I was thinking there was no way that was going to work at ALL with the way her hair lightened, but she pulled it off! And I loved the pineapple updo! Damn, I wish I could do that with my hair, that looked so cute!

When we talk about to the coloring of dreadlocks we must remember that they are like nests so when they come into contact with anything, such as dust, soap, etc. they absorb it. I have personally treated dye dreadlocks and even when the dye has faded inside you can find pieces of dry dye. Also, you will sometimes find flakes like dandruff on your freshly dyed dreadlock. I advise anyone who wants to color their locks to add extensions every time, the color will be much brighter and the hair will be less damaged.

I had my hair professionally taken from black box dye to red once and it was a process - it took an eternity, I had to go back the next day, I had to pay a fortune, but we got it to red and she managed to not SUPER damage it. She really put in the work - I gave her a $30 tip each time. I swore then to never dye my hair black ever again - especially not box dye. I learned a bit about permanent box dyes. But then when I went from semi-permanent red to purple, the red was just as difficult to get out!

I have locs as well and I can tell you shes destroying the integrity of the locs and anytime you start adding bleach to it then its just a waiting game until they are falling out. Before that itll be brittle and dry and the texture will be ruined first. Going to a loctision who knows how to lighten and color without bleach would be the best but in the end its hair and you should always feel free to express yourself however you want haha so good on her for exploring her hair.

I want to do something with my super long hair but I haven't died it in over ten years so I'm nervous at what color I would look good in. I hate my hair because it's always been dark by the roots and lighter when it goes down due to sun and being a half breed so I just want something different so people will stop asking if I forgot to dye my hair. what color would u think I would look good with?

You can 100000% damage your locs with bleaching. Even if its not in the moment. My loss are down to my butt I've had them for going on 10 years and all my locs that broke off were ones I bleached and colored in the past. Worst thing I did for my locs and I only bleached some of them once. never again. (This does vary based on loc size im sure, mine are quite small but not sisterlocs)

I dye locs myself using what I learned from brads videos ive never had a problem. If people listen it would be simple. Same thing. Do your mids then your ends then the roots. For loced people your mid is gone to be from the top of the locked area to wear your curls start to form. definitely get all the way around each loc

Bleach on my locs made them weaken so bad, every time I shampooed my hair it would break off. They became so soft. Literally all I had to do was pull them and they would break like rubber bands. I lost a whole loc in the back as well. Could I be Allergic to bleach?

Honestly the second girl was too arrogant for me! I understand you are in the profession yourself but saying you do what you want and you dont care, and youre not the one for feedback well you're never going to grow constructive criticism will only make you better
reply

Why make dying your hair a thing anyway. You already have locs to look after. Second girl, if you put yourself out there expect comments. Too bad for you. Lol.
Oh and I can't wait to see them both try to touch their hair up, especially the second gir.

#1 Nothing wrong with dying your hair but I thought the point of locks was for a protective style from all the chemicals. I think a professional was needed- before all the locks fall out. IJS. ;)

Dying and Dyeing are two very different words, so I first was a bit worried lol! Lord Mondo has the best reactions ever! Today, I am debating going myself a shag haircut and bleaching my crazy hair, um, silver. All thanks to Brads inspiration!

Okay, I might be a totally ignorant bi-racial woman, but isnt having locks about embracing being totally natural? Locks require a good deal of maintenance to stay healthy without chemicals, so why are these women doing this to their hair?
reply

Brad Mondo you CAN over bleach locks! Ive had about a third of my dreads break off from overbleaching over the years! It did take a few years worth of damage to kill it and Ive lost anywhere between 2-6 inches off of some of them.
