No, you cheated in so many places that its not the same look. It appears like your younger self was more innovative with the usage of the products than you are today. Most of people do not have the wide arsenal of products that you are using now, in fact using less should be encouraged because the skin should breath. It would be awesome if you could do a makeup routine with as few products as possible. There you will see that it can be a struggle. And yes, it would include as few brushes as possible. Dont be fixed to do things in just one way, be open as you said in the end.

I'm 40, I remember when highlighter didn't exist. Highlight and contour was only stage/drag makeup and only used light and dark nothing shimmery, and concealer was before foundation for hiding blemishes or dark circles.
