Fennel seeds are fascinating to me. I've never seen or made a recipe with fennel seeds, but grew up eating them in my childhood nonetheless. How? Those cheap totinos sausage pizzas back in the day. They used to have fennel seeds on top, and I thought they were bugs lol. Yes, 7 year old me picked them all off if I saw a seed.

A few years ago we attended a Christmas festival in an old pioneer town in southern Arizona called Tubac. One merchant served homemade butter cookies that included lavender petals (as opposed to fennel. It was very delicate and very nice, too.

So I made the cookie dough then left it a few hours before baking. When I came back to it it was dry so I added some dehydrated milk to smooth it out (bad idea) the butter start to separate from the dough.

I just made these and they are so tasty! Mine are a little shiny and the ridges fell flat. I don't think I let the sugar, butter mixture cool long enough. Regardless taste and texture are A+
