Make traditional potato latkes for Hanukkah or just for breakfast! These potato pancakes are crispy and delicious takforalt: Love your vids Hilah. I found your site looking for a corn bread recipe which was great BTW. Now I am in nostalgia mode with the potato latkes like my Momma used to make. She used to grate the potato and onion very finely and then instead of removing the water she added a bit of wheat flour. They came out crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. I think I will make them even though I am in Thailand and getting sour cream is not so easy and not so cheap.

I quote from some website on googling taro irritation: -Most edible taro has irritating, needle-like crystals (oxalic acid, and must be cooked to dissolve it. Undercooked taro root and taro leaves can cause extremely unpleasant itching in your mouth. -
So yeah, raw taro = wear gloves or use a giant fork. Using cooked taro can't really be called Latkes, it's more like mashed taro pancakes.

I've done this before as well as a twist up Asian style one with taro instead. But both with considerably less oil and probably took longer to cook. Pretty awesome if you like taro, but be sure to wear a pair of gloves or something when shredding them.

Sheesh! I'm still working on the cornbread, and now you want me to make Latkes? So much for losing any weight THIS year. -
I'll prob'ly make these in the next day or so, and I'll make a point of being hung over, so I don't screw it up. LOL

hi, i've made this recipe, unfortunately i burned them, it really needs some practice before, to fry them exactly the right way: ( i'l try next time. and btw, i used sunflower oil not olive oil.

Hilah, if you switch to canola oil you won't get so much smoke and set your smoke alarm off. Olive oil has a low smoke point and starts to break down under high heat and can taste bitter.

-amalgamation25 YES! My great granny used to make those for us. So good with butter and a shit load of black pepper. So cool that someone else had those rice thingies! :)

Hey, great video. I have one question though. Do you have more then one camera filming simotainously? Or do you cut the parts out when you need to move your camera.
