This honestly reminds me of the orange sponge cakes my grandma used to make when I was a child. We unfortunately never learned the recipe from her, but I think I want to try yours to see how close it might be. Will just beat the batter with some orange peel on it like she used to instead of the lemon zest.

EMMA! Ooo this looks SO good! I've been looking like for a good pound cake recipe to go with ice cream! We toast the pound cake (after baking of course) and put it in the bottom of the bowl, add ice cream and a good chocolate syrup! AMAZING!

Pound cake is also popular in the South. I made pound cake a few times, and it's one of the easiest cakes to make. I add sour cream to mine for extra fat and moisture.
