Learn how to make Beer Floats Actually, you probably already know how to make ice cream floats, but have you ever considered doing them with real beer instead of the traditional root beer? Most likely not, but if you love beer as much as I do, you may want to give these adult floats a try

Hey Chef John. Love the idea/recipe. You could do an easy beer for brewing at home. ;-) A buddy and I started doing that recently: We have done a dark Hefeweizen, a just regular dark beer and a Pale Ale is sitting in my basement and still processing at the moment. It is a bit lengthy to do, but definitely worth it and a lot of fun. Especially, if you are really a lover of beer as you said. ;-) It is not insanely expensive and definitely a fun experience with a friend. If you are going to try this, DO NOT forget to let the beer rest after the fermentation. We were letting it ferment in a tank first, then in the bottles (both times for about two weeks) and the beer was ok. After letting it sit in the cold for about 4 weeks, just leeting it rest, it was great. Much clearer and the it actually pretty much was what we wanted to achieve in taste.

Yeah. I spent a whole week, a week, traveling around Ireland asking every barman I found if they could make a Guinness Float. 'No. What is that? Have a whiskey instead. ' (Do not drink too much single malt in Doolin, where be the Mohar Cliffs. It tastes like warm ice cream and you will get hammered. Can I get that as a float? 'We do not have any ice cream. ' Every time, and I was treated as if from another world (America. I should have went to the Guinness people and demanded the patient rights for the float

Great to see Chef John not only loving good beer, but also knowing about beer. How about some more beer recipies? I make a whole weat no-knead bread with a Belgian Double. I make a coq au vin with a dark style beer. Even a beef or pork stew can work with good beer. Beer batter for frying is awesome. Chocolate cake with stout is also a winner. Any other tips/recipies? Signed: Dutch guy that realizes all too well how spoiled he is with all the quality beers available

An American ale with a whiskey ice cream, that sounds good. We have a boutique ice cream shop here in Columbus, Ohio (Jeni's Ice Cream) that makes a really great OYO Whiskey with Pecan ice cream (a local distillery. That was the first flavor I thought of when I realized you meant actual beer and not root beer.

When I was a kid I worked in a restaurant. I occasionally made a little too much strawberry milkshake from scratch. Poured the extra in a glass, topped it up with some Seven-Up. It probably would have looked cool if I'd gently poured the milkshake into the Seven-Up. In any case, it was really quite good.

I made a root beer float once, but I didn't have any ice cream so I had to use ice, and I didn't have any root beer so I had to use Scotch whisky. Man after a couple root beer floats I was hammered. Switching over to this might be easier on the liver.

A brewery nearby gives their local candy shop some of their stout (Breakfast Cookies Stout) to make a dark chocolate gelato. On stout day the brewery buys back the gelato to make beer floats in the very same beer that the gelato was made from.

You should do a traditional mongolian episode. I made tsuivan and milk tea today and it was amazing. Its really hard to find a good recipe for anything. They also put sheep tallow and jerky stuff called borts in their tea, its weird.

Try lemon ice cream (good lemon ice cream, not cheap crap) with champagne. Not a lot of champagne, just enough to make a fun slurry. It's freaking amazing. You can get drunk without even liking champagne and without even feeling the alcohol.

Ice cream+root beet schnapps+root beer=world's best root beer float. The alcohol content of the schnapps stops the ice from forming around the ice cream, making it far creamier than a regular float. Will have to try the beer float some time.
