I am from England and I think Mark may feel a little underwhelmed about the food here in the UK it is definitely not exotic like some of the wonderful places they visit. I would much rather go to the Philippines and sample their food and lifestyle than come to the cold UK where the food is somewhat boring. He could always try the parmo from the north east of England and tell us what he thinks about that next time he comes here. That would be interesting although I think he likes more spicy food so he probably won't like that either but it is something different to sample.

West Side is da best
Best places to eat in London are Chinatown for Chinese food (Obviously) and Brick Lane for Indian food. South London has some good Caribbean food joints, if you want traditional, there are still some pie and mash shops around in South and East which aren't for everyone but personally I can't get enough of them. Places like Borough and Camden Markets are tourist traps which honestly sell mediocre street food because 9 times out of 10 it isn't being made by someone from that culture.

Barcelona Boqueria is a rip off too. Difference is the ingredients are good. Borough Market and UK food outlets are crap with cheap food at premium prices. Every Aussie food mall sells a good laksa for a couple of quid. You can't get that here. All you get is takeaway rubbish. Chow mein puke. Sweet and Sour sick. Char Siu some kind of meat. Message to Asian Restaurants: We want Asian food at sensible prices We travel. We are awake to Asian food and the crap you produce in this country.

On the whole, UK street food is pretty poor and definitely overpriced. People know what foreign food is now. We travel. We compare. UK street food is a bit cack mainly. In Asia everyone has it breakfast lunch supper. In the UK they sell takeaway style food. Very unhealthy. Just see Manchester Trafford Centre Food Hall and compare it to anywhere in SE Asia or even Australia who do a great job of Asian food.

If you're looking for the best British food, you really need to try places more out of the way. We don't really go in for our spice, preferring more aromatic flavours like herbs and garlic, our dishes are very rustic so going to local farmers markets in the countryside is a good try along with visits to more local pubs and traditional taverns. It's all about the warmth and heartiness. :)

in London find an authentic Indian, Turkish or Lebanese, Italian or Turkish restaurant and eat. Chances are you will not find a single British setup which cooks healthy food from scratch. They sell something as handmade food. They commercialize and make money without hard work it's that lazy in reality for British people. As a tourist food is boring.

Nothing English about this food experience Mark. Disappointed in your choice. I'm a Londoner, the next time you come over, please let me know. I'll take you to some excellent hole in the wall type places. And you are welcome to stay with myself and my wife. We will cook you a great meal you will remember for a long-time.

Yeah Mark, I get you buddy. Clearly not a pleasant experience, rather disappointing by the looks of your face and wallet. London is no Thailand, Vietnam India or Kenya, there clearly is no vibe, no food vibrance and your face said it all. The street food scene there has little or no soul. love Twickenham

Basically eating chicken and chips from Dixys taste better than what you get there. Theres literally better places everywhere, brick lane is even better and theres hot spots of food places but that place isnt where us Londoners truly go. The most Ive done is walked thru the market to go to the Thames side

I am not impressed with the Borough Market meals. You have some good food stalls but most of them especially the Asian food is dire. Service is sloppy, so is the food. Its all for the tourist, quick turnover and they know whatever, the tourists will not be back anyway.
