Din Tai Fung at Taipei 101, read my blog post: One of the most famous restaurant in all of Taipei is Din Tai Fun, a restaurant thats become famous and even synonymous for serving soup dumplings known as xiao long bao. The original location of Din Tai Fung, located on Xinyi street is only one of the many locations now around Taipei and even around the world. But since we were already visiting the Taipei 101, we decided to skip the original location and eat at the Din Tai Fung Taipei 101 branch for lunch one day. One of the best things about the restaurant is the service and the branding - it almost runs like a fast food restaurant - the system works so well, yet of course they serve much higher quality food. We arrived to the restaurant at about 11 am and luckily that was early enough to beat the main Taipei lunch rush. We got situated down, and made our order. The dumplings are all handmade inside the restaurant, and as soon as you enter youll notice a small army of white dressed dumpling makers who look like they work at a hospital, but in fact they are making world class dumplings - all by hand. The Din Tai Fung menu includes quite a few different things, but really the only reason everyone goes there is mainly to eat soup dumplings, the xiao long bao - everything else on the menu is sort of secondary, though its nice to have a variety of different foods on the table. But lets start with the xiao long bao soup dumplings. What I really enjoyed about the xiao long bao at Din Tai Fung at Taipei 101 is that they were very delicate. The wrapper wasnt too thick, but it was just nice and thin and the pork mixture inside was delicate and flavorful, but not overly salty like it can sometimes be. In order to eat xiao long bao, there was a handy instructions card on the table at the restaurant. The first step was to add some soy sauce and vinegar to your dipping bowl, then dip a dumpling into the sauce and top with ginger, then put your dumpling in your spoon and poke a hole in the wrapper to release all the soup juice, and then eat it all in one bite. The instructions worked well and I successfully enjoy all the xiao long bao. Along with the soup dumplings another dish I tried was the minced pork topped noodles which came with a pile of hand-made noodles on the bottom with a minced pork and Chinese sausage mixture on the top. It was a little on the plain side, but it was pretty good. We also ordered a few other side dishes like pickled cucumber and the Din Tai Fung salad, all of which were good, but nothing compared to the xiao long bao. Again, there are a number of location of Din Tai Fung around Taipei, and the Taipei 101 branch is a really nice restaurant. Its clean, the service is really good, and its all about those soup dumplings. The

I am a huge fan of all things dumplings, and xialongbao are one of the most amazing dumplings I have tasted so far. And Din Tai Fun is really really amazing for xiaolongbao. I havent been to Taiwan yet (but I am very tempted to go there after seeing Mark's vlogs on it. I went to Din Tai Fun in Shanghai and Bangkok several times, and so much enjoyed it. The soup dumplings are so so so so good. Thinking of them makes me so very very hungry and wanting to be in a place where I can enjoy them.

My first Din Tai Fung experience was in Hong Kong and it was dismal. Everything was awful. I don't know. Maybe there are just too many better options in town. Their xiao long bao was disappointing. I have tried it in other cities and it wasn't that bad. Maybe the service in Hong Kong just sucked and it helped ruin the experience. On eating xiao long bao, I actually prefer eating it whole one piece without poking a hole. But you have to wait a minute or two to not burn your mouth.

i ADORE Shao Rong Bao--they are my second favourite Yum Cha My favourite is the kind that is fried on the bottom, but steamed on the top and served with sesame seeds and minced scallions on top. I adore them. Fun Goh and prawn balls encased in toasted almonds are my next favourites, followed by chicken feet in black bean sauce. As you can tell, I eat yum cha everywhere I travel to or live--bangkok, taiwan, hong kong, san francisco, tokyo, san diego, new york, etc.

FYI. His videos are great but if he wouldnt make that facial expression when he ate something good. It looks hideous & annoyed. Prefer to see more pics of the episodes other than his face closed up on the screen. Btw the workers are covering their faces & hair for sanitary issues. And the white uniforms represent purity & cleanliness. The ways Marks comments about the workers uniforms are inappropriate. Medical staff is not the only profession who wears white.

Dined here as well, 101 Taipei tower. Been to DTF, Central Embassy branch, 5th floor, Bangkok several times. XLB is a burst of great flavors. Another favorite of mine at DTF, Central Embassy is a dish, Dao Mien ( pea pod sprouts ) with slivers of pork, so simple yet so divine. Caution though, the DTF branch that opened in Megamall, Mandaluyong, Manila, Phil does not hold up to the DTF legacy, a great disappointment.

I've been there in beijing, china. the food there is actually chinese and not taiwanese, so pretty much the same since taiwanese and chinese are so similar. but the noodles you ate are called ja jiang mian. most people think of black bean noodles, which is the korean version of ja jiang mian, which literally means fried sauce noodles. din tai fung's soup dumplings are probably the best in the world

I gotta ask because the curiosity alone would just kill me. Mark do you make the same faces when eating alone? Is the face where your eyes close, then start to laugh followed by an oh wow(lol) a sincere face? Like would you do that by yourself even if the cameras weren't rolling? Hope to hear back. Blessings and keep doing the amazing work you do

after poking a hole on the xiao long bao you have to slurp the soup first then you eat it. if its your first time eating xiao long bro its better if you eat it naked aka without anything on so you could taste its original flavour. just a reminder if you don't know the ratio of the soy sauce to vinegar is 1: 2

actually what the soup is actually made of is that they freeze the soup before hand and so they mix in the frozen soup with the meat and when they steam it, that's where the soup comes from. so in a way there is some pork juices but mainly is frozen soup

I'm weird, but when I was ate DTF, I used the ginger with my chopsticks to glaze some vinegar sauce on it, then leave a little bit of ginger on the dumplings and took it with one bite. So good. It safes the trouble of you pouring it on your dumplings: D
