Highly recommend White Elephant Adventures: This is Day 2 of our food culture trip in Laos, if you havent seen Khmu Food Part 1, you can watch it here: We woke up naturally to the sounds in the early morning and sat around and hung out, just enjoying the fresh cool are. We strolled around the Khmu village for a little while before we packed up and headed to a Hmong village not too far away. When I reached out to you during my trip to Laos and asked you for suggestions one what I should eat or cover, many of you said I should try Hmong food. Now Hmong restaurant are not that common, so the best way to eat Hmong food is to go to a local family home and have them cook. Along with Alex from White Elephant Adventures he was able to arrange it for us. Our Hmong meal was buffalo, all types and variations. The two main and favorite Hmong food dishes they made were raw buffalo with a huge amount of bile, and cooked buffalo with raw blood. We also had some buffalo stew, soup, and roasted buffalo. Probably the most fascinating thing to me about Hmong culture and food as opposed to most of Laos is that Hmong typically eat white steamed rice as opposed to sticky rice. And unlike just about every other culture Ive witnessed in Asia, where you get your own bowl of rice and share all the side dishes, in Hmong culture you have a communal bowl of rice and share everything. It may seem different to Western culture, but it really brings out a sense of family and community. The food was awesome, all things buffalo. I especially liked the raw buffalo with bile, that was the best Hmong food of the meal. It was an amazing day and I learned a lot about Hmong food, a quick introduction. 10 Best Things to Do in Luang Prabang

Hey Im Hmoob and most of the people in the video are not Hmoob. Believe me, the family of the house is but most of the people in the video are not. The ones eating. If your gonna post a video of any kinds of peoples, make sure they show you their true foods. This video reminds me of Anthony Bourdains video of visiting my people in Laos, and pretty much the government said no, you cant go see them or ask questions about these peoples. They had some one take him to a house to eat some foods, some were a little you can say and some were not even close. We are a people who have lost everything, so we now incorporate other peoples foods into our own cuisines. But if you make a video, make sure they show you the true foods and their culture and dont ever be ashamed of it. Dont every sugar coat with something else, that doesnt define us who we are I am not ashamed to be Hmoob

Just so u know, the main person in green that spoke in English is Hmong, but Im 200% sure the rest of the guys arent Hmong at all. Also, couple of the dishes arent Hmong cuisine. We dont, ever in the history of Hmong people, have a dish that is liquid blood in buffalo meat. Our blood dish is blood in intestines and organs only and blood is not liquid, its solid jello like. What happened here was, a Hmong host in a Hmong family home, but he brought his Lao buddies to come cook their Lao type dishes. But its still Laos subculture and still one of the better attempts at showing Hmong food/culture. Thanks for showing this. Just wanted to point out the obvious so you and those watching arent lead to believe this is 100% Hmong.

That raw, red meat dish isn't Hmong's. That is a Laotian dish Hmong borrowed. It's called Lak Xue or tiger's dish, i. e, eating raw like a tiger. Instead of this, they could have cooked you a real Hmong bile stew dish which Hmong called it quav ab that includes chopped meat, interior organs, and bile. The steamed rice, BBQ meat, beef vegetable soup, and boil peas are Hmong's. There are still many other Hmong dishes that weren't included in your lunch like boil pumpkin vines with pork or any kind of meat, sour bamboo soup, steam fish or chicken, and grinded tomatoes, egg plants, or green peppers, etc.

Im Hmong and I usually eat Hmong food time to time, but if you havent ate anything for a while and you see Hmong food being cook at that moment of family gatherings, youre in a hell of a buffet of satisfying, delicious, and whole-hearty food. Just ask your Hmong friends if you can attend their Jingle Bell one day. Done it for all my Latino, black, and white friends and they always come back for more. Specially purple sticky rice

Hmong here. I have forgotten some aspect of my own culture since i've been in America for my entire life. Thanks for bringing back some memories. The blood meat dish is AMAZING. Some very good stuff. We have a different version where we cook the blood in a way where it becomes a cube along with a darker soup. That paired with beef and white rice is just. drool

Love this video, Mark Thank you for visiting the Hmong village and sharing your experiences with us. My heart broke watching the kids at school and a little girl towards the end of the video in a dirty torn dress as happy as can be. Glad to have watched this video and how gracious you were to our people. Thank you and god bless

Here are the best hmong foods. Rice in water with ginger and salt. Rice in water with pepper and salt. Rice in water with banana no salt. Rice in water with wild leaves and salt. Rice in water with cucumber with salt and pepper. The best dish is, rice in water with more water on the side That should be the entire hmong menue.

I am Hmong from the United States, originally from Laos. I am happy to see you visited Hmong village and most importantly testing Hmong foods. Many Americans view us in a way it is hard to imagine but Hmong people are very nice and down to earth type of people. Welcome to Hmong house. Please come back anytime.
