The Last Butcher Shop in Little Italy

video description

Jennifer Prezioso is the butcher at Albanese Meats & Poultry, one of the last butcher shops of its kind in New York City and an iconic storefront in the dwindling neighborhood of Little Italy. Jen s the 4th butcher in her family to run the shop, which she inherited from her grandfather, the legendy Moe the Butcher. Anna: Here in Germany, it is still pretty common to do your shopping at the local butchers or the local bakery and I would hate for that tradition to disappear. It is lovely how she is continuing the tradition in a place where it has been disappearing.

A truly lost art! I am old enough to remember that in upstate NY, the local A&P had a butcher and nothing came in a tray with celophane over it. I'm in Calif. now, and if you can find a meat market, I dare anyone to ask for calves liver. They look at you like you've lost your mind. Or how about soup bones? However, the younger generation is all about bone marrow and bone broth. Where do they think they think these things come from?

This is the soul of our economy. This is the type of business that needs to be supported 100%. May she have nothing but success and never lose the passion and vision that her ancestors built as a foundation for her to build her life on. May she prosper enough to NEED to hire extra help.

Great piece! There needs to be more businesses and people like this. Businesses that are superstores have no real identity. It's the small mom and pop stores that have made America what it is, but they're being forced out of business.

This is so freaking cool, I want something like this for my family. I'm 32 years young it's my dream to have some thing like this to past on to my families and gets embedded into the community. Seriously so awesome.

This is amazing. She needs to fix up the outside of the shop a little to draw some more attention to it! I understand she prolly doesn t have the money to spend. Hopefully this video brings her more business!

This is so awesome to see. My dad owned butcher shops in Bensonhurst Brooklyn and upstate. Not quite as historic as this place. She has a great personality too. I'll have to stop by next time I'm in NYC.

I grew up there was the best place to grow up. What a neighborhood. Great to see her stay there and keep their legacy. Unfortunately they have to own the building to still be there so kudos to them.
