I had to learn a language in 7 days (ft. Nathaniel Drew) Mlem: I was always jealous of people who come from English speaking countries and know the world language perfectly.
But the last few years I have learned, as a person who speaks two languages, that it is not bad if my English is not perfect and I have a terrible accent(German. Most people are impressed that you know two languages (and I'm learning the third. In fact, I usually only get mocked online when I misspell something or mix up to and too and stuff like that. But outside in the Rl nobody is interested in such things.
This video actually helped me find you even more likeable: D. It's easy to be always happy and perfect in front of the camera. But this imperfection motivates me personally even more. We are all only human: . Love from Germany

New favourite video from you definitely! It was so honest (when you cried in front of the camera I literally cried and I wanted to much you to pass the exams. even that all this happened weeks ago, it was soo motivating and I was nervous through the video that what will be the end. And it is very interesting to hear that you do not want to stop to use the language although you passed your exams. This gave me a totally new perspective about learning which I think I can use in my next semester.
I learn Dutch because cycling is my biggest passion and I'm very determined that I want to move to the Netherlands for a couple of months or more to cycle through the country just once at least in my life because I heard that bycicle roads and community so developed there.

really proud you were able to pass the exams! But also, the fact that you lived in a country for 4 years without fully immersing into the language sounds out of this world. That just speaks of the privilege native english speakers have. I know you were joking when you said why do we need this language, if every dutch person speaks english! but it trully is a state of mind anglo countries have, and its really sad and narrow-minded. I really hope this shows other viewers how if you want to live somewhere, the least you can try to do is lern the language. don't just live in you own little bubble. Hopefully you get your visa renewed!

Gefeliciteerd! My favorite easter eggs in your videos are hearing Robin speak Dutch in the background, and I love hearing you speak it too! I live in America but speak Dutch with my family and I can say from experience that forced Dutch days are a way to make real progress. It hurts your head, its so frustrating, but you'll realize you can talk your way towards almost any word. Your Dutch friends seem great and I agree you sound zo lief en schattig! p. s. ik beloof iedereen vind het hartstikke leuk om jou te helpen! Het is zo leuk als mensen willen leeren, en jij doet het fantastisch!

Sadia's problem is she is a perfectionist in every area of her life and everything she does so it is alien for her to not feel competent in being fluent in Dutch. That said, after 5 years living there, maybe she should have done what Nathaniel suggested and have one day a week where they only speak Dutch.
If they have children in the future, then it would also be useful for her to already know Dutch and maybe have a rule of Robin speaking Dutch to the child all the time at home as the child will learn English at school and grow up bi-lingual.

As a native Belgian that speaks Dutch (Flemish, I must say that your speaking abilities are AMAZING! I went through the same stages learning British as I moved to Liverpool for an exchange program. I struggled a LOT with the language in the first days, but once I only spoke English during the day, my language proficiency went uphill! As a Dutch and English language teacher, I loved the fact that you made this kind of video. It really shows the importance of a language. Have a lot of fun with learning Dutch, it's a very fun language!

You've done such a good job! And WOW! your dutch G is amazing! I mean, who says ingeburgerd like you do? ;)
I love seeing this and I can relate to learning a new language in another country. I Moved to Sweden for almost ten years ago and learned Swedish. The feeling of failing or making a mistake is horrible! I hear ya!
But for now you can be proud of what you've accomplished! :) yay!

Good job! Lucky for you, Dutch is very close to English, you already live there, your husband is Dutch, you're surrounded by helping friends.
Imagine doing something like this in one of the countries you visited in the beginning where your language has nothing in common, with nobody helping, no money either. and being an average guy instead of a pretty girl/boy but who would watch that?

I appreciate your honesty, but for someone who has been living in the country for 5 years and not being able to speak the language its actually a disrespectful to the local people, especially saying who need this Dutch anyway. You have been in a very privileged position for being able to live in the country for so many years and I find it just fair that you have to take an exam.
