Strange you had the best pork knuckle in Berlin of all places. If you want a good one you really need to go to Munich or anywhere else in Bavaria. They're known for Schweinshaxn, Berlin certainly isn't. If you want good pork products, southern Germany is the place to go.
Just noticed: a stein of beer with Weissbier? Whoever served you that should be. well let's say sadly Germany doesn't have capital punishment. Weissbier is always served in a glass specifically made for Weissbier. There's only one deviation and that's of course something from Berlin where they pour Weissbier in a glass that looks a lot like a bird bath and then have raspberry syrup in the bottom. You drink it with a straw - disgusting, but some people like it.

English bacon. Even as a half-English American, I can say that the back bacon is the main thing that I miss about England when I'm not over there visiting. There is a place relatively nearby called Proper British Bacon, but it is an hour and a half to two hours drive away on the opposite side of Seattle from me, so on the whole, even for that bacon, the trip just isn't worth it. Mind you, if someone knows a place that has back bacon north of Seattle, I would be just over the moon.

Brilliant episode. I would be very interested in a similar recipe based on the various ways they do pork knuckle (Schweinehaxe) in Germany, as that one is completely different than the ones we get here in Bavaria. It is likely a similar process, however when they are served here they have the MOST amazing crackling on the haxe. It is likely the one food thing I will miss when I leave Bavaria later this year. It is simply good food!
Keep up the great work guys.

My family migrated to Australia almost 40 years ago and every single one still misses British sausages and bacon! Also, does Mike have a background in marketing/sales? I've noticed in quite a few videos how great he is at cross promoting and plugging the goods and have always been curious.

Hearing Mike's screeching reminds me of a while back when I made lasagna with my dad. I was in my wheelchair holding the dish, and he was ladling the sauce into the lasagna pan. One scoop missed, and glooped all down my leg. Made just the same noise. And definitely 100% Did Not cry.

Diesel is bad enough but you haven't reached the depth of German beer perversion if you haven't tried a Bananenweizen (wheat beer + banana juice.
(says I, the worst German in the world who's neither into beer nor bread nor pork (except pork knuckle, the crispy variation)

Nice job and probs for not taking any random german beer, but going for the right type. However i would have served a side of sauerkraut with it, to balance out the heavy heartyness of the pork with some refreshing acidity.

Yo please research that one again. Beer with coke is called Diesel in Germany and no German with any honor left in him would EVER EVER EVER drink something as disgusting as this. We don't do that here. Love you guys though

Just boil the pork in a colander inside the pot, then you just lift out the colander with the pork, no pouring needed; pork goes into a baking pan, liquid gets made into gravy or whatever.

If ever you are in Berlin go to Spandau and find Brauhaus Spandau. Dont bother with the menu, just order the pork knuckle and a jug of brown beer. You cannot have a better night!
