Either spices are far less expensive in the UK or those guesses for that massive jar of ginger were just silly. That much ginger would cost 28 (>21 pounds) at my local supermarket. Not for some special ginger, just the regular McCormick.

80 pounds isn't terrible for the ginger, honestly. Four tablespoons of McCormick ground ginger is like five bucks. An actually good dried ginger product is worth the money, if you use dried ginger that much.

I think that good quality meat has always been expensive. We find the price shocking now, cause the supermarkets a flooded with cheap, fast, full of water, industrial ham.
