The Ultimate Gingerbread House And Cookie Guide Shakira Williams: Ugh This recipe was missing some important tips, like adding flour based on the consistency and not the quantity. Even though I only used 4 cups of flour the consistency was still too dry in the end. (Ugh Yes I used precise measurements. I remade the dough again making sure to add flour based on consistency and not quantity, 2nd time it worked out. Also another tip, make sure you roll out the dough for gingerbread house right away. Leaving in the fridge and waiting makes for a rock hard dough impossible to roll out even after warming up the dough hours later.

Its interesting, that in America, people are afraid of raw egg whites. I always use fresh egg whites in Germany and there is no problem eating it in royal icing. There is so much sugar in the recipe and on top its fully dry, so that the eggs wont go bad. Until I was an adult, I had never heard of pasteurized egg whites. But maybe its because the eggs get washed in the US and thats why theyre more vulnerable to salmonella.

We dont really make gingerbread houses anymore because all of us kids are grown up, but one of the last times i made one, i made a frat house with drunk marshmallow people on the roof. My mom LOVED it. She made sure all our visiting relatives got to see it lolAlso, we always just used graham crackers. We were never about fancy gingerbread houses, we just had fun with it.

My 3 year old granddaughter found a gingerbread ornament her mother had made when she was 3 years old. My granddaughter asked if I would make gingerbread that we can eat then she said and of course to make gingerbread ornaments. Next Christmas I will make a gingerbread house with her. Thank you for this delicious recipe

Where is the cookie recipe, it goes to fast and font is super small to even see without pausing A bit frustrating when trying to write and the recipe for the cookies is not even on the actual recipe page, theres only recipe and templates for the house: (

Tip: I add Brown Gel Coloring to part of my thicker Royal Icing so that when putting my walls and roof together they look neater. Then I come back and decorate with the White Royal Icing and make the Snow and Icicles.

This is so hard to make. My hands were burning trying to make the dough and then it hardened up so fast I wasnt able to use the leftovers. I dont have a microwave. Why is gingerbread so hard to make right?
