Trinidad Black Cake As Made By Kwesi Xloi63: I have so much reverance for the black cake, I make four a year. You dont need to keep it in the fridge, just brush it regularly and wrap it well. And if you dont want your cake being dry and tough you need to not abuse the flour like he did. Cream butter and sugar, add eggs (1 at a time, Add Browning and vanilla, then alternate fruit and flour carefully not make too much gluten. And let it rest for a week after brushing before eating.

Black cake is such a holiday staple I tried my first attempt at it this year to give my mom a break and it turned out delicious My mom tends to soak her fruits several days and sometimes months before she makes black cake. The flavors become so intense And we make ours just a little darker with some browning (the same burnt caramel mix. So happy to see this tasty treat represented here

My mom soaks her fruits for an entire year in cherry brandy and every time she used to cut a slice of it, she would pour rum over it. The cake does not have to be stored in the refrigerator for 3 months; it will last longer than 3 months but I think it depends a lot on your fruits as well. Nice attempt for a first timer, Kwesi. Needs to be a little blacker, but not bad at all.

Too many steps for me but where can I find this in Los Angeles? My dads family is from Trinidad and West Indies but he passed away and I never experienced the culture and food but really want to. Please share any foods I can try in the Los Angeles area.

Alrigt Kwesi yuh will get a small pass on this fruit cake yuh make here. Its not a traditional, dense black cake but it eh look too bad. But babes the fruits need to soak for at least half a year in rum

Youve been away from home too long. come back. Them fruits have to soak in wine and white oak for a year. The cake hadda be black not brown. Then when u bake it you pour more rum. And take out the nuts lol
