Brilliant in the 60 s at school we were taught to use a glass to cut out cookies and incase people couldnt afford scales we were taught a tablespoon of flour is an ounce just like butter cut in half then cut in half width wise then each cube was an ounce. we used a milk bottle to measure liquid and so on. when I make cake I dont use scales I still today measure my ingredients the same way.
