Hmm. Actually so disgusting that you put potatoes under chair legs.
There are little cute things, made out of felt. You could use them. Or just buy felt for a dollar and stick it under the chair legs. At least they wouldn't get mold.

The glasses idea wouldn't last 5 minutes. I refuse to believe the toothbrush trick and repairing a bag with chewed gum is very unhygienic.
