Pro artists Michael Mattesi and Diego Lucia teach you how to make your figures more dynamic. The author behind the Force Books is the guy to help you un-stiff your stiff poses TheAisleOfPlenty: Great Video! I'm just starting out and trying to tackle the challenge of building myself a -Learning Plan- or -Progress Plan-. After fundamentals/basic geometrical shapes, basic perspective, I was thinking anatomy would be the next logical area I would like to study. Is Mr. Mattesi suggesting I start out with this type of gesture drawing BEFORE getting into Anatomy? (11: 35) thanx!

This is certainly interesting. But it makes it seem like this is an approach applicable to any kind of pose. But could you feasibly start out with something like this if what you needed was to make a really standard looking t-pose?

the first part was helpful. I had only wished Michael had not changed the pose Diego gave him. It's like one cook buying eggs to make fried eggs and the second chef takes them and makes an omelette from it.

Extra force with wrong drowing doesn't seem good
I thing the real force will automatically come when u get better in your work, The confidence to make a good drawing brings perfect force to the line

If by 45 degrees he means 90 degrees (because the bend in the elbow is 90 degrees. Although I get that compared to the straight vertical the upper arm is about 45 degrees from that

I've seen a lot of drawing tutorials that teach about -lines-, -directions-, -flow-, etc. Never understood them. I watched this vid. Still didn't understand a thing -

I was always confused about the purpose of gesture drawings but this video made it so simple to understand the philosophy behind it.
Thanks!

I used this method for my figure drawing and it changed my way of doing anatomy drastically! It's a really good way of observing gestures.
