Umm. that's NOT the legend of King Canute. Canute was NOT arrogant, his advisors were, who claimed he could command nature. He took them to the seashore, and commanded the tide to stop. It did not, and Canute (NOT drowning, turned to his advisors, and said -See? No mortal king is stronger than what has been created by God. - He was a HUMBLE king, berating overly-flattering courtiers, not an arrogant fool.

This is such a cool and honestly telling approach to using references! I've kinda had a standpoint where I've wanted to believe in not using references at all, but also sometimes being okay with it because nothing really comes to mind when I try to go off of nothing. This take is probably the most useful and thought out take that I have heard, more than any art class I took or other youtubers I've seen.

My ultimate goal is to be able to completely not need references to create art. I-ve always thought that using reference is just copying. Thats not fun! But through studying I-ve learned the benefits of using references. The video explains it the best. Thanks

I think with the -hnn- you mean, that the creator is the intermediate between Nature and the Creation. So it is important to remember that as a medium between those two and out of respect for ourselves as artists, we should find the balance.

Exactly my thoughts and struggles with should I use them and how much. Did he just say Barcelona Academy of Art at the end? I'm an artist based in Barcelona and I wonder is he here in Barca? :D
