Antonio Stappaerts is a professional concept artist and teacher. In this video, he-ll detail his six steps on how you can learn to draw anything and provide you with a better understanding of form, design, and structure. You-ll learn how to break down complex subjects into simple shapes, the importance of shape design, and get some valuable tips on manipulating basic shapes to make them more dynamic and interesting. If you-ve been trying to draw the world around you (or from imagination) and your artwork is not living up to your expectations, then this lesson will really help you out

Wow, that contour advice was something I never heard of, until now. Amazing how one simple tip can help greatly in improving your shapes. Excited to test it later when I draw!
Don't mind me, here's just some open notes I'm typing while listening to this: (Advice that really struck me):
-Don't just copy the subject, and understand what primitive shape (basic triangle, squares) circles is being manipulated.
-Contours can help massively in shaping the form of the object you wanna draw. Even if it's the same base shape, different contours can affect the structure you are drawing.
-It's okay if you don't know intrinsically the anatomy of something like humans or animals. But learning to break those complex forms down into simple shapes and have good spatial reasoning from knowing basic shapes is enough to help you draw them.
-Education is when we finally dedicate ourselves to something we want to draw, after we have a visual library from doing basic shape manipulation and deconstruction. We can know understand why those various shapes that are manipulated is, from learning their anatomy. Like fine tuning our prior knowledge.

Drawing with forms can be broken down into 6 sequential steps(SMOEII):
1. structeralization
2. manipulation
3. observation
4. education
5. imitation
6. imagination
The following is a mix of observation and personal opinion; please take with salt. Thank you, and good luck.
Often overlooked, manipulation(bend, twist, round, bevel, carve, etc) of basic shapes(cube, cylinder, sphere, cone, tetrahedron, etc) can be especially useful for artists struggling to move to more complex forms. Imitate your favorite artists to draw upon the vast knowledge of past creators -- stand on the shoulders of giants.
Perhaps this can be applied to lower dimensional tensors. Understanding the structure of a plane, then manipulating that structure sounds like it could be useful for drawing things like leaves, paper, and certain animal ears.

24: 55- A little bit useful-? You are underselling yourself there mate! This was really an eyeopener for me! I was stuck in my journey of art and really confused on how to improve, but this video helped me a lot haha Thanks for making this! :D

This was very very helpful. I don-t know about others but when I get an idea I want to draw it right away and as fast as I can and I worry about complex details before doing simple outlines or shapes first. You did amazing explaining this!

You're amazing. No one told me that I should start with making simple shapes complex. Here I am learning anatomy thinking it's logically the next steps as everyone is saying, and I don't even know how to bend a simple join properly.

I keep coming back to this video to remember all the important points it makes. I tried shape manipulation after the first time I watched bit soon stopped for some reason, now I will try this again and really give focus to that.

if you're saying there are six steps and they seem to be in an order, should I not advance and/or start the next one until I have mastered the current stage?

proko, where I can get good tutorial and good help in term of the second step Manipulation, I have been searching online and actually did not find much.
