I think all artists have personal stories they want to tell that in part drive them but there's an unhealthy obsession with ego and (social - money, fame, reverence and etc) personal achievement, or perhaps the industry attracts those sorts of people, in the wider art world.
It's a common self obsessed mentality I dislike. You don't have to be a pawn in carving someone's elses dream. You can be a co-author of what you create, equally as proud and satisfied with the product. You chose which one you are by the type of work you pick, by the people you choose to work with.
Not to say personal projects are inherently bad or anything but if you cannot work with other people, or rather find lack of merit or fulfilment in such projects, then you do not have anything to offer to the wider world, because all humanity does is one big group project, and thinking you have a monopoly on what you bring into this world as if you were divorced from it is a delusion.
I think it does have a lot to do with the crisis of (self) worth, so it's not like there's easy solution. But it's time we drop the lone genius myth. It does not reflect reality and perpetuates subtle destruction of the foundation to how all of society works.

It -is- tedious, when you don't have the exact line you want or the right method for filling in whatever -------- you're working on, redrawing the same line over and over again only to realize you've zoomed in too far. Drawing is insanity. It's drawing the exact same thing over and over again because somehow, you get the details better except for tHAT ONE F------ LINE

-Awesome sketchbook-. It's clear why the artist was hired by Riot.
I really love the use of ballpoint pen (blue primarily with red) as well as gouache. Ballpoint pen is not only cheap, but more like a pencil. You can create soft lines as well as bold darker lines. Completely understated and it's evident the artist understood the media but mastered it!

I can see why. I instantly reacted to that quick -throw away- sketch in a way that I didn't for everything else I had seen up to that point. For that stuff, my main thought was -hm, cool; very nice; great drawing. - For that one, my reaction was -damn-.

I saw this a few weeks ago and I'm so glad I did. I didn't do much with sketchbooks until I saw this. Decided to try using pens, here I am almost 3 weeks later, using pens nonstop for my doodles! Anyways just wanted to say that

Seeing such beautiful, realistic illustrations/concept art always makes me jealous of the artists skill. I-ve been drawing for several years and still can-t even grasp how to make my art look like that

That sketch its just too good to be sketch. Ita more like already polished drawing than a sketch. Even though i know thats juat for showing off purpose. But it aint ehat real sketch is.

This breaks my heart to watch, as a fellow commercial artist, the struggle to always get better and better is like a disease and no company will ever pay us enough for our effort, ever.

Its crazy with how good he is, he is always trying to validate his art or is uncomfotable with how his older drawings looked. Forever the learner never confident in his work

this dude angers me. he talks about how these drawings are low quality and from when he was still developing but the look leagues better than most artists out there.
