I can verify that you can grow watermelon in the PNW! I grew three bush sugar babies in a 15 Gallon Grow Bag last year. So far this year, I have one plant in that same Grow Bag. It seems to be doing better with more space for roots with that single plant. I tried it last year based on Kevin's comment on my comment to just start them in seed trays to better time the soil temp opening in my short Lynden, WA growing season.

I live in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. I recently started this gardening journey by buying a Costco greenhouse in May 2025. It took me a week to build. Although I haven’t put any plants in it yet, we are in the beginning of summer and the temperature inside with the window, vent and door opened is 112 degrees Fahrenheit! Any greenhouse growing suggestions Like wait until winter before using. lol

I also think it’s the soil so I’m already a five year into gardening and the soil that I always grow. My melons is like so good I never I haven’t had a failure. They grow real good in that and I’m a container planner too so but I noticed I have about three beds that are from the beginning and their soil was so great, very successful with a lot.

First year trying melons. I've got 2 planted together and I'll be training them in opposite directions. They look terrible when our temps are above 100, so I have to put up some shade cloth on most days. Hopefully they survive our extreme temps here in the SoCal desert, zone 9B. Thanks for the info Kevin!

I just direct sow them and trellis on the cattle pannel. My zone i do the mini hand-held melons but they are fruiting no work outside watering. Although i have in a bed with cut flowers lisianthus, cosmos, glads, yarrow, straw flowers and sea holly. I think the flowers bringing in the pollinators

Rock on with the solid advice all around. I was pleasantly surprised my blocks of corn the watermelon and zucchini are next to had volunteer 4 o'clocks poppin out everywhere intermingling. Turns out havin more pretty stuff to look at makes that biome healthier with less labor too!

Mine the leaves are all turning brown but the fruit isn’t ready or as large as yours. I didn’t thin them but I don’t think there’s too many melons per plant. Also it’s not on drip. I might just concede defeat this year and apply some of these tips next year.

I’m growing a bunch of cantaloupe plants, and the cantaloupes kept disappearing when they started getting ripe. One night I saw the culprits - raccoons. I solved it by keeping a little portable tv running at night facing the plants each night. Raccoons hate tv!

I had to hand pollinate my white zucchini this morning. I have been seeing blossom end rot, so I fertilized a couple days ago and hand pollinated today! Thanks so much for all the information, I wouldn't have know what to do without you Eric. I mean Kevin!

Man, the heat wave is a lotto keep the Melons watered. I was easier when I was working from home. This is the first time I’ve seen melon aphids this year. So I been using a pepper, garlic spray I made to kill them but they are heat stressed.

Melons plants growing like crazy. Plenty of flowers. ALL MALES. No female flowers at all. 2nd year in a row! the few female flowers I have gotten all appear AFTER all the male flowers had gone. Not as simple and easy as he says it is!

I just hand pollinated melons, pumpkins, and squash this morning! I grow my melons and pumpkins in ground in the greenhouse so it's warm enough for long enough in Seattle. It's a crazy jungle by the end of the season.

Lost Coast Therapy, OrganiShield, and Montgomery BT is great for pest and mold control and it’s natural plus also use Surround Kaolin Clay, all of these are organic/natural and quite effective

Now I want melons! But I didn't grow any or order on my groceries this week. And I didn't know anyone else did melon bowls for ice cream. I used to do that all the time!

Another great video and perfect timing as both my watermelon and cantaloupe are taking off. Unfortunately, right now I only have male flowers, so waiting patiently

My favorite part about this type of melon (cantaloupe, etc) is that all the seeds are right there in the center. I like watermelon, but I HATE dealing with the seeds!
