I have several 27 gallon totes running the kratky system. I drop my net pots in the top of the tote and fill the tote with water and liquid nutrients until the level reaches the first horizontal rib in the net pots(perhaps a half inch or less. For rock wool I place the cube on the bottom of the net pot and add clay pellets, for bare root plants I hold the plant up with the longest root just touching the bottom of the net pot and carefully fill the pot with clay pellets. Most plants will put roots into the reservoir in days after hitting the nutrient solution. I checked some bare root lettuce plants that I put into the tote five days ago and the roots are all over the outside of the net pot already. Peppers and tomatoes are already showing good growth.

I've just watched the video and am using the air stones. It appears I'm doing the same as the video; the net pot has the rock wool which has the seed. The bottom of the pots are not in the water (they are actually about 4 inches above the water line, but are being hit by the air bubbles.
However, three of the pots never sprouted and the rock wool has been drenched by the air bubbles to the point of being soaking wet.
My question is can the rock wool be too wet? If so, would it be smart to only have the very base of the pot just 'peeking' through the cut hole at the bottom rather than sitting on its lip (the way you showed yours?

my leaves are droopy and i couldnt figure out if i was overwatering or underwatering, i placed them right where you showed. I tried letting them dry out and also tried cranking that airstone all the way up. very slow growth for a week, still on first set of leaves out of seed. should i add nutes yet or hold off. i think i moved them to the dwc system to soon out of the germination pod, i saw a tiny root like yours and said! and moved over to clay and netipot. from netipot to water level it was a good 3 inches (eventually made it down there) (is that why its growing slow, or lack of nutes)

I would like to know more on hydroponics, aeroponics, and any gardening techniques that work for growing food crops in the high desert of Southern California. Not only is it hot and dry in the summer and cold in the winter, but the soil here is also horrible and takes a lot of amending. I would like to give hydroponics a try.

Like the video because it solves a practical problem. My current system uses overhead drip to get the roots growing, then once the roots are out of the net pot, I put water line just above the bottom of the net pot, start the water stones, then I keep overhead drip irrigation pretty much forever to replenish the water.

Didn't really answer the question. Question was where do you place net pot? And your answer is get a drip top or air stone. Ok, I have air stone, the question remains where do you place the net pot, i. e how much separation from the net pot to the water should there be if the roots haven't hit the water?

Hi Great video, I am growing in dwc for the first time, I am using water from mIy tap that is treated with chloramine, the plant seems fine for now but worried as I have read I should use a R. O filter but I dont have space for one at the moment. Do you know how bad chloramine is for plants in hydro?

To answer your question. I am only interested in vegetables in any form. I would appreciate a title to each video which indicates accurately the subject. House plants, flowers are of no interest to me and I do not want to waste time on videos that are no good to me. But I am all ears for veg. thanks

In short
With roots - no worries, as long as the roots hit the water solution
Without roots - 1. Make sure that medium is moist enough until the roots start popping 2. If you have air stone, the moist from bubbles will keep the medium moist until roots start poppin. Thanks

Thank you for your videos. I have just 2 questions that I cant seem to find an answer to anywhere. When growing herbs in mason jar, how often do we have to change water? Or can we just keep re-watering from the top and just add the nutrients? Thank you in advance.

I created a RDWC. But the water level is too high. Can I put clay stones under the Rockwood to create a space between the water and the bottom of the Rockwood? I am having tonns of problems. we are going through a heat wave as well. Thanks for the video!

Wont the bubbles from the air stone also over feed and drown the plant with them constantly hitting the bottom of the rock wool cube? How deep in the net pot should you put a rockwool cube? The bottom of the rock wool cube halfway in the net pot?

If transplanting a store bought plant into a kratky system (washed off the soil) how much of the root system should I submerge into the nutrient solution? All the roots? Or do I want to leave some out to breathe? (Not using an airstone)

Perfect timing I'm starting my first DWC grow and this was definitely becoming the last issue I wasn't fully confident in. Thanks for the information and I cant tell you how many times I've referenced your social media outlets for help.

Once the roots grow beyond the basket does the entire root system need to be submerged or just a part of the roots? Also in a deep water system in buckets how do you know what the water mix level is and when to add nutrients?
