With its tropical origins, its no surprise that Peperomia obtusifolia is popular. Often grown as a prized houseplant, the baby rubber plant loves its humidity, but cant take cold temps. Its surprisingly self-sufficient, and makes for a perfect green addition to your home. Slender stems support fleshy, almost succulent-looking leaves. Whether its one of the multicolored varieties or all green, its quite a sight to behold. A perennial, its capable of living for years in the right environment. Inviting one of these beauties into your home is a joy! So lets talk about the pepper face, this sweet little gem amongst the varied peperomia species. Weve collected all the tips youll need to grow your own. Youll love the lush foliage it provides for you every year

What about leaves curly under? Mine is 1 foot from a north facing window, I'm in the southern hemisphere so it's strong indirect light. It has a well planter, where an inner pot sits inside a well and slowly soaks water in, that well water is replaced every week. The planter is porcelain. Top leaves are perfect, bottom leaves and new growth has it's leaves just on the edge curling under. To me this plant is getting enough light for sure and enough moisture around it without being wet. Top inch or so usually stay dry. Why is it doing this? No leaf drop or browning at all.

Please make a propagation video, I cut some branches of a beautiful plant when I realised I was losing it to root rot, and now you mention it, perhaps it didn't have enough light as well. So the cuttings were successful, and I've potted them from water, but every day, I'm anxiously looking at them bcos should the propagation fail, I will have lost the whole plant: ( meanwhile, I've seen from your soil that mine may not have enough coco coir or peat in it. Thank you very, very much for your houseplant videos they are very informative and helpful. :)

Funny story, when I moved to Florida I found one of these outside in my backyard as a pup. I threw it in a pot and just let it be. I searched and searched but I could never find out what this plant was until now! This is like 2 years later. Lol thanks for the tips and care!

This was awesome. I rescued this plant from the sale aisle, it was doing amazingly well, then I knocked it off its shelf, moved it to a safer place and it never seemed to forgive me. So yeah, amazingly useful video and look forward to the propagation of this beauty

I would love to see how you propagate the pruned parts of the plant. I would also love to see you demonstrate pinching a plant. Im fairly new to indoor plants - thanks 2020 - and have read it in lots of blogs and articles but I dont really know what it means.

Help! My Peperomias have that rat tail-like inflorescences. Although they are nice looking. If I cut them will nee leaves grow from it? Or should I just leave it alone? If they grow that rat like tail does that mean the peperomia is done growing?

I have this plant for about 6 months and all the leaves look healthy however the light green stems you have coming out of the top of your plant all seem to fall off of my plant but otherwise it looks healthy. Can you tell me what these stems are?

There are tons of mushrooms growing in my peperomias pot. Same with the one I gave my boyfriend, they are from the same place but repotted in different soil. Is there any sort of reason for this? None of my other plants have any.

Thanks for the video. Ive wondered about these guys but I realize from your video that it wouldnt be too happy in my home. I am in a very dry area & plants that need humidity dont fare well in my care. Its a super cool plant though!

Propagation video, yes please! I just got a gorgeously variegated p. o. of my very own; thanks for the care tips. I really appreciate your videos and articles on houseplants AND indoor gardening/hydroponic herbs and veggies.

Nice! I need to add peat moss to my pepperomia! My prayer plant might need a change of soil with more peat moss, too! was thinking it would be nice to see some more variegated plants that need light to keep the variegation.

I would love to see the propogating video. My peperomia is spilling down and needs to be pruned! Some leaves at the base are turning yellow so I know I need to repot also. Can you how me how I prune and propagate an repot?
reply

agreed. i had 4 stems on my plant and 2 dropped from over watering. the last 2 have done so much better with me not overwatering and it filled up the plant with HUGE palm sized white and green leaves in a shiny orange pot

at 6: 30 you talked of some photo read of light. is there a real way to do that in different spots of our homes? like can I test my counter or the top of my washer and know for sure what is going on with the light?
