Rosemary is dead-simple to grow. With just a bit of care, you'll have epic rosemary bushes year-round, or you'll learn how to propagate it year after year if you're in a colder climate. We'll even make an easy rosemary salt

Hi Kevin and a very good day to you, this is Dan in West Virginia,
First of all you articulate extremely well on how to grow herbs. I'm sure you could do just about anything when it comes to teaching and producing a clear concise video. Thank you! One of my favorite herbs is Rosemary because of what you described in your video today, January 2022 and although I'm on the southern tip Virginia West Virginia right now the temperature outside is 25 degrees F. I'm not getting much interior light at the moment because I have my windows covered for insulation purposes and I live semi off-grid and use generaterating power. Any suggestions Keeping My Rosemary healthy during the winter and early spring cycle? Thank you Kevin!

I've killed rosemary several ways. black mold gets it. spiders get webs in it that attracts dirt then mold killing it. I water it it dies I dont water it it dies. guess I have to spray it frequently to keep the mold and spiders out, but still I'm clueless about watering it. I usually kill everything I put in pots. my flowers wince as I walk by: )
Why make rosemary salt? Just baste turkey with liquid butter sprinkle rinsed rosemary leaves on bird. baste uncovered with liquid butter every 30 minutes your bird cannot dry out that way. I do small turkey breasts. the thermometers LIE! only do just before Medium.

We planted a Madeline Hill (Hill Hardy) Rosemary in March 2021 after the major snow storm that roared through our area of Central Texas and much of the South/Southeast US. It looks very good right now. Green and full, in a landscape that doesn't get standing water, helped out by a slightly sloping yard.
Sadly, we haven't gotten any flowers on them this year so far (they're supposed to flower sometime in the spring and summer months. Not sure if we've pampered them too much, or if some rosemary need a year or two before they will bloom.

I live in zone 7a in north Georgia. I've put out rosemary in the spring and in the fall it would dye. 2 years ago I again planted rosemary, and about midway through i neglected it. Just left in the pot if it rained it got watered. It died back during the cold and I though was done. I left it alone until the next year and it green back up. This past winter it never died back it stayed green all through the winter, and it doing great. I don't now the variety. It came from Bonnie nursery which most big box stores sell here in Georgia.

Here in GA 7b/8a, we have had our rosemary in a pot for five years with no problem at all. I also made rosemary salt from it, but I put the rosemary through the grinder by itself until it was fine, then added it to a fine salt at a 1-1 ratio. This ratio allows the rosemary to really come through without too much salt ruining the dish. It's rosemary salt, not salty rosemary. The 1-1 ratio works perfectly with steaks, roasted meats and potatoes.

I bought rosemary seeds from a well known brand here in Chile, that never fails me with germination, and I'm waiting for them to sprout, but still nothing after eight days, but well, the package says to wait up to a month, so fingers crossed. I previously bought a little rosemary plant and it died, like most of the plants I buy, the only thing that always works for me is seeds, so that's why I decided to go down that road

Quick question about top dressing around a perennial herb like rosemary: if growing these kinds of herbs in raised beds, what do you do when the soil drops? I have mine in a raised bed and I need to add more matter for the soil to raise back up, but Id end up covering part of the stem of my rosemary (or other herbs like sage or chamomile. How do I do this to increase the soil back to the top of the bed?

I live in Puerto Rico zone 12b. My grandma and mom have managed to have the most beautifull ones. I HAVE NEVER kept one alive. Saddened about it. I recently bought now a new tender plant, but am establised one. Its been a month. That is a record. I plan to transplant it and will be careful with the soil this time and keep it in container. Wish me luck!

Im in zone 8b. Outside Home Depot in the parking lot on one of the island dividers they have a huge rosemary shrub. So I planted my rosemary bush that has been living in a pot on my front porch for 6 years. It has survived its first winter in the ground. We even had frost twice. And it actually doubled in size in 1 season. I live in Myrtle beach, SC.

Why does my Rosemary turn brown? How to save them? I bought 7 from Lowes and Home Depot. All of them turn brown and needle like leaves all fell off. And died. I bought several again. They smelled so good but lately they are turning brown from the bottom and not as green as I first bought them. I am in CA, Bay Area. Appreciate any help.

So easy, huh? I killed mine in record time. Ive always had good luck with indoor plants. Now Im in my first house an figured Id get an herb to start for my garden. Well, I guess it dried out too much in full sun. In a terracotta pot it was very hot to the touch. I have a little life in it and Im hoping to bring it back to life.

I rescued three rosemary plants from the grocery store and they are not doing well. I've followed what they need (sun, not much water, rocky soil, etc) but they look dry and withered. I don't see any root rot, so I'm not sure what's going on. Is there any way to save them? Or were they likely doomed from the start?

Golden rain? Lol I love your videos! So, when would you say the best time to harvest for dehydration? I live in NW Florida 8a and I have several plants growing in my yard all year. I know how to propagate, but I would still like some dehydrated, but is it best to do so when its early growth or anytime? TIA
reply

I dont know the type of rosemary I have, but I bought fresh from the store and propagated it last year and out of about 7 pieces I have 3 plants. Taking more cuttings from them and trying to propagate them also. I dont know the type but I know I like to cook with it and it is the kind Publix sells fresh.
