Bush beans are my favorite style of bean due to the versatility you have in how you choose to grow them. They also work well in small apartment or urban gardens as you can cram a ton of green beans in a vertical system, or even grow them in containers. As we continue in our gardening for beginners videos, I think learning how to grow beans is a great foray into a more 'complex' plant than leafy greens or herbs, but without upping the difficulty too much

G'day,
Just left a message on another Grow Tower post you did a while back.
Am keen on making 2 X DIY grow towers for indoor lighting.
2 questions, which includes beans as they're also a favourite food, (1) is the planting and positioning of different plants on the tower heights IE The runners like beans /cucumbers / squash / pumpkin etc on the bottom grow levels for vines to climb etc.
The second question refers to the nutrient differences / needs / optimal PH etc for the different plants on the tower. IE herbs / tomato / strawberry / beans etc.
I like beans, but not for my only food source
If you had 2 DIY tower, how would you plan it to start the playing process pls?
PS - Friggin awesome tailored work apron.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Kevin. Im a new follower and relatively new gardener. Ive been binge watching your videos lately and you got my butt off the couch to finally set up my compost bin. It had been shoved into the corner of my yard from when I moved in (3 years ago)
My question is for my current new project of bush beans. Ive never planted them before and the seeds were given to me by my father-in-law so I dont know what variety they are. Ive ordered a set of 5, 10-gallon grow bags and am planning on transferring them in. I was eyeing a tower but the price was a bit too much for me currently. Anyways, how many can a plant in each bag without them being overcrowded. Just 2 plants or could I manage 3?

Im very disappointed in the Greenstalk company. I just purchased a Leaf for my strawberries because their website & on the materials I received said it was fine to plant strawberries in the Leaf, only to find they are no longer recommended for overwintering strawberries in the Leaf per the inventors daughter on the GreenStalk Gardeners closed FB group. I reached out to the company, and customer service said Id have to pay $25 to return it & then order an Original. Its unfair to ask the customer to pay for their marketing mistake. I was so excited for such a neat concept, but its not a good company.

I'm growing bush beans. I moved them outside, but they do NOT like the heat and seem to fry within minutes. I'm having to constantly move them around my yard (sunlight shade, etc) and then I'm bringing them back inside at night. They are in containers, but there has got to be an easier way to do this, or one spot that I can just leave them in all the time. They are about five inches high right now. Any tips are appreciated!

I want to try out this tower, but for now I have a half barrel container. Anyway, I've been having a lot of trouble with leaf miner on my bush beans; I've removed infected leaves daily, put netting over the plant, and tried to apply DE on the leaves to get it under control. Do you have any other recommendations, or should I just keep at this for 2 weeks and see what happens?

Suggestion for all the nutrients going to the bottom layers, couldn't you just disassemble the layers and put top trays on bottom and bottom ones on top? I also heard when they look like they are done producing, cut the plant way back to one little sprig with 2-3 leaves and it will regrow into new producing plant. It has an established root system.

I planted Asparagus beans more than 3months ago and they've produced lotsa leaves and crept up the chicken fence-ladder that I've installed but no beans yet! What am I doing wrong? I've also noticed that they're infested with black ants. Help! (Love your apron btw and I'm a super fan of your epic videos!

My dad was an organic gardener his whole life. No matter where we lived we had a garden and a freezer full of vegetables for the winter. One of the things he taught me was to plant a second batch of beans 2 weeks after planting the first batch. Especially if the garden was tiny. Thanks for your videos.

Just planted beans in clear cups with my kids for some fun observation of germination. Never had problems transplanting them before. Thanks for upholding the idea of starting bean seeds indoors and in effect supporting preschool spring projects everywhere.

Would periodic rotating the stacking order remedy the nitrogen issue? Now that some time has passed in your Green stalk, would you recommend it for a sunny patio gardener? I want to grow more food, more efficiently. What would you recommend?

I just received my Garden Stalk and I'm excited to grow beans. I have a few different kinds of bean seeds. Do you have any plans to make more videos about growing in this system? Curious about organizing different types of plants in it.

Seen beans look wilted throughout and yellow above bottom row of the tower. Spider mites like the dry. Possibly why their attack was near the top. That tower may need a deterrent to the gravity of the water

How do you combat the pests once you discover them? Do you clip the leaves? Do you look for the pest and remove it gently? Or is there a formula sold in store we can get to help combat them?
