Great video. Thank you. Question, I planted spinach, chard, lettuce and arugula 4/22 from seeds. They have all sprouted (I think that's the word for them, but except for the lettuce, the others are not progressing especially the spinach. I'm not sure if it's because they're planted on a slope and the drainage is that not good, but they appear to need some help. Any ideas what can be stunting their growth? Thank you.

As you go about replanting and planting, marking the plants before they grow up into something recognizable is a good idea. In an effort to justify my drinking, I re-purpose my wine corks by painting them white, marking them with what is planted and the date the seeds went in the ground. When I harvest, I can repaint and note the new plant. I use a straightened coat hanger for the post for the cork.

1. Mulch mainly to preserve moisture in soil
2. Prune. Clean up and free space to plant more, nip bulbs to route energy to bloom plants
Compost. 4: 15 if YOU ARE AN UPSET KAREN because he composted his basil plant, DON'T WORRY his basil DOESN'T taste good. It's better for compost.
3. Prepare your beds. Do it asap. And if you have bean roots, let it rot in the soil for a nitrogen boost.

Thank You Kevin! Great tips!
I always wondered about what roots to leave in the soil.
I use straw for compost pile and winter mulch, but recently got Cedar mulch for my beds, is that good? (wondering if too acidic for certain plants) Sure does help keep the moisture in dry-ass NM!
Now I know that Cilantro needs shadier/cooler spots. never had much success with it.

What stool are you using? My back is killing me and my beds are raised but I like to be comfortable! Also, have you ever grown padron peppers? I've also heard them called One in Ten because out every 10 you'll get one hot one, and it's pretty close to being true! They are super good saute hot and fast. yummy snack. I hope mine do well this year.

In Orange County, where did you get your straw mulch. Husband bought straw and its big pieces and full of wheat thats growing want to remove and get the stuff you have. This is the first year we have mulched our raised beds it does make a difference in watering. Always watch for your videos to post. Thank you for all the great information.

I've been watching your videos principally for the indoor plant gardening tips as I don't have a garden ) but I absolutely love watching all your videos in general! You have the perfect mix of concise scientific input and practical tips, and you always give your plants such cute personalities in the way you talk about them

I never know when when a season ends or starts for many of the things i grow. I have kale from mid to late winter. I've been doing small harvests every so often but now the leaves aren't growing as big even with added nutrients. .am now wondering if its at the end of its life cycle.

Could you do a video on finding and propagating true moss and maybe creeping thyme? I know most people try to get rid of moss but I think its really pretty and would like to make a little rock moss garden for my living room table. Its also small and manageable for the space I have.

I just let you know you always bring very interesting video I like it. I can tell you know what your are doing and help others with good tips.
One Q. is how long will take the African blue basil to grow so big (you show in this video.
Thank you I really appreciate; )

Our spring season is so messed up here - we would love to be solidly ready for summer gardening but we get so much temperature fluctuation the last few years we're still doing our best to get spring stuff done! We're sort of moving on to summer, but it's a little crazy in there.

Omg! Yes and its gonna get hot! I'm in Fresno ca so it gets hot. during last month I became a gardener! I'm learning so many things from your vids. I wondered if I'll need a cover for them if they get hot. seeing those darn earwigs by my corn. theres so much to gardening!

Hi Kevin. I'd like to try the shredded straw mulch; however, I checked their website and they don't appear to sell directly from the site and there don't appear to be any dealers in CA. Can you advise how you sourced that shredded straw? Thanks!
