We're celebrating our own thanksgiving here at the cabin during harvest season so I spend a couple of weeks finishing the interior of the bedroom addition and a few other unfinished projects around the homestead. Log Cabin Building, Bushcraft, Survival Skills, Cooking, Canadian Wilderness, Off Grid Living, Homesteading Hi, I'm Shawn James. I am a passionate outdoorsman living the life of my dreams in a log cabin that I built by myself in the Canadian wilderness. Join me and my golden retriever, Cali and listen to the sounds of the forest in this relaxing wilderness setting. I prefer to keep my talking to a minimum and let the natural sounds of nature make you feel as though you are there with me. Good Morning Shawn. My name is David and live not to far away from lake Ennerdale in the lake district in Cumbria, a little country village called WathBrow. I am 78 and have watched every single one of your videos. What you have achieved with your second build is nothing short of a miracle hard work and sheer dedication to end up with a lovely luxury living style in the wilderness. I used to fish to fish alot for salmon so know how much you enjoy the freedom life. Well done on all of your extreme hard work. Regards David

You can get special table covers specifically to place under linen tablecloths. They serve to protect the table against hot plates or wine spills, and the table cloth against catching on rough edges particularly if the dining table has been widened with chip board tops for maximum guest seats.
We just put large brushed cotton sheets over the dining table if we wanted to use under a white table cloth. A table cloth sets better over something other than just wood.

Cabin is GORGEOUS! Get a bearskin for floor in front fireplace in bedroom. Also unless you're hanging another pic below the one you hung, it will feel more natural if you hang it at eye level. I am so amazed at all you've done BY YOURSELF! My father, a lifelong carpenter would say you've done a spectacular job and that you are a steady man. Wish he was alive to see all your accomplishments. Great job Sean! You're living the dream of so many!

I LOVE the way the table turned out w/ the two different stains! I look forward to seeing how it looks w/ epoxy.
To be honest, I didn’t care for the old table either. I tho’t that as you were sitting there eating, before you even bro’t it up too dark and dull. I’m sure your wife is going to love the new version when you’re done!
Good luck getting the plumbing and masonry done before winter. Enjoy time with your company.

i am always amazed but not surprised by your level of craftmanship when i look at this cabin. I was just mentioning to my wife that i have such admiration for what you have done with both cabins. I have been with your journey since 2016 and have watched every single video religiously. it has been amazing to watch. Thank you. By the way. the model of your first cabin is still in the works: )

You've probably already considered this, but how about moving the bathroom It would open the area up for additional seating. As it is, you have two places to sit and the table. How about opening up your pass through and adding the bathroom there It will change the roofline, and you'll have to rework the foundation, but it will at least give you optional seating space.

Porch post finishing idea and coverup. why not make a box frame a little taller than the gap. hinge one side so it can be accessed to lower down as needed. use a cloth or fur or ribber gasket around the post and a solid wood cover that comes close to the post.
this will give the posts a pedestal look and allow for settling. and fit with the construction itself.

The dining table looks great! I think what you have created is absolutely amazing! And still you labor on to make it even better. I love the sound of your voice. it is ever so comforting and smooth. Can't wait to see the master bedroom in its entirety. Hopefully you'll get some down time when the snow starts to fall. Love all that you do!

the idea with the stone is beautiful, but it's probably better to use a stone-patterned tile for safety reasons, as it's lighter and has a larger contact area, which will help it stay in place. However, if a stone falls off and someone is below at that moment, it could be very dangerous.

What an extraordinary achievement Shawn!
You have created a Magnificent Cabin’ and Property to be proud of, and enjoyed by your family and future generations.
I love it!
And I hope it always remains in the hands of your beautiful family.

I kept waiting for some sandpaper to appear in the process of finishing the table top. and at the end Shawn allows that he SHOULD have done some sanding BEFORE staining. yup! I agree with Mrs. James about the prickly top. It would drive me loony.

Such a cozy looking cabin, Shawn. It's absolutely beautiful and looks so comfortable there. Very warm and relaxing. I know a lot of hard work went into it, though. It shows. You can now enjoy the results of all that labor of love.

Shawn enjoy your time with family.
Your hard work and determination will shine as the family sees your cabin.
You deserve a break after all I’ve seen you do.
Cali always wonderful to see her in your videos.

Nice video as always. Are you planning on adding some Canadian honeybees to your homestead sometime Greetings from a barefoot beekeeper who specializes in traditional skep beekeeping and log hives.

Sand it a little and put the dark walnut over it and it will warm up the dark stain and give it more depth. You can also do the opposite and put it over a dark walnut stain to warm it up.

It’s looking great, Shawn. All of your hard work is truly paying off. Happy Thanksgiving to your family! I know it was last week, but it matters not. I’m watching from Utah.

The older I get, the brighter colors I like, so I would have had something bright, it can get gloomy inside with so much dark everywhere It isnt that red when dried!

Any plans to put insulated curtains on the windows I would think that would complete the cozy feel of the cabin and cut down on cold drafts off the glass.
