I'm going to drop baits down deeper than 2000ft, searching for deep sea creatures at Long Island in the Bahamas. The Bahamas is surrounded by extremely deep water, with some areas deeper than 3 miles. I'm fishing with Luke Mallis, a world-famous spear fisherman, and deep-water enthusiast. He has caught some of the deepest fish that live in the Bahamas. We hooked Swordfish, Squid, Six Gill Sharks, Snake Mackerel, and other strange creatures. For the swordfish rig, why do you not use a tail hook Tail hooks to me at least seem like you will miss much less fish. When fish hit, sometimes they will strike from the side and that’s where the tail is so useful because they then hit the trail hook. I understand that when you dropped it deep in the squid jug that’s different, but when you dropped the fish on the sword rig, there was no tail hook, and a tail hook would be very useful.

My life’s mission has always been to catch the colossal squid (even less studied than the giant) did 2 years of aquatic biology before I eventually dropped out: ( point being I LOVE this content, if I had unlimited money this is exactly what I’d be doing, not enough folks deep dropping giant baits. Hard to believe it’s difficult to find people wanting/willing to! Please keep this series up it’s my favorite thing you’ve done

LOL damn at least put the fish out of the misery before you put it in the icebox I guess it stops the blood from getting in the ice you could throw them in fresh ice water or something LOL the electric reels nice if I could just have one of those and then maybe strapped into the harness I wouldn't be bad I like that a lot I wonder if they like make those for catfishing I'm going to have to look into that

Luke knows it's a Sword 100%. 10 seconds later a swordfish jumps. Later on in the day after hooking something on the squid: I'm kinda thinkin its a small 6 gill. Yup. Can't fake that kind of experience. Guides know their stuff but this guy is on another level.

26: 37 first sixgill
That looks like a pup
Wait until you see the adults or that one 20 footer in Japan. That’s where the fun begins
By the way the teeth are shaped like literal saws and they are much more serrated than great white teeth

First time I've ever seen an auto reel actually be used damn. I live in a landlocked area. However that's very cool especially if your big fish fishing I'd imagine after a full day of fighting tuna or whatever feels like hours of fighting lol

You don't have to make an excuse for that electric reel, I think it's the coolest thing I seen in years. Didn't even know that they made them until seeing it on your video. Wish I had one and I barely ever go fishing. haha

Talking about the weight and line distance; I used to do videography on Lake Michigan in approx 300-500ft with lead core line quickest way to hate everything reel up 1000yrds of leadcore line.

i would love to see a timer from the hook up to the catch. i think it would put an interesting perspective on how long it really takes to catch them. sometimes it seems like it only takes 5 mins.

I don’t know much about deep sea fishing. Why do the fish throw there stomach up and eye balls pop out when they are reeled up If anyone could answer my question I would much appreciate it!

Oh my GOSH! And oh my GOSH! And OH MY GOSH! Oh MY Gosh! OHHHHHH MYYYY GOSSSSSHHHHHHH !

This guy is definitely afraid of the Magic, Ivisible (super jealous) Space Fairy.

So it looks like you lose more than half the fish you hook. Most it seems, being eaten before you see them. Look I've caught another pile of shredded leftovers. lol

Love the videos keep at it you will catch a giant squid if you want to catch a 1000lb sixgill shark come to England and you have a good chance of getting one
reply

For some reason they go the entire time catching bait without naming the fish they where catching. For anyone curious those are needlefish.

Ahh man I was I the only one waiting for Luke to say Alright Alright Alright! lol he’s got some of that Matthew McConaughey vibe in him.
reply

I'm 100% for electric reels. Especially at 2000'. I get wiped out after a day of deep sea rock fishing at 3-400' lol. Surgery on my hand.
reply

Would it be possible to rig a camera on the line someway Or a 360 camera set up underneath the boat Would love to see the fish as it surfaces
reply

This is the coolest thing I've seen today I would love to do that 2, 000 ft for squid I don't eat it but would love to catch one that big
reply

It's nice having an automatic reel, but it takes away a lot of the true fishing aspect. Nice squid. Humboldts are a very dangerous predator.

For many years now, you never produce a bad video Josh! Such amazing content. So glad you’re healthy and can stay out all day again!
